Shot just for you, just now:

That's my Canon 5DMKII with grip (both batteries are in it), wearing my Canon 100-400mm fully extended. It holds the weight just fine and I find that I can still fully work with it to aim it and so on.

I've literally used it with every DSLR I've owned; 20D, 40D, 7D and 5DMKII, and every lens but the 500mm FD mount (but I bet I could work it with that on there too!)

hm. The spec says 6 lbs weight load... that's not a ton. I think my camera is nearly 7 with the 24-70... how are you getting away with that?

I think it's simply under-rated to ensure that the manufacturer is covered. It's honestly quite a strong and tough little pod, and very stable. In nearly ten years of use and abuse, I've never had a problem with it holding any combo I've thrown at it.

Just because I mentioned it, I had to see... File this under, "let's get crazy, let's get nuts":

Canon 5DMKII with Canon Grip holding both batteries, Canon 500mm f/4.5 FD mount lens, Canon 580EXII Speedlite with batteries, and a Yongnuo RF-603 trigger with batteries, all being supported by the Ultra-Pod II without a problem.

F.Y.I., I calculate this out to be 10.27 pounds on the pod.

Honestly, I don't know, but I can only vouch for the one I have. Linking the wrong one is my mistake.

Their descriptions seem to be identical; In particular "Maximum Safe Load: 6 pounds".

Might be worth emailing the manufacturer and asking them if there's any real difference other than the color.

I wrote to them when we were talking about this to ask them specifically:

I have a Gray Ultra-Pod II that I love and have used reliably for about 10 years. In recommending this to others, I can only find a black version online.

So, I'm trying to find the manufacturer (Pedco) to ask a couple of questions, and I was led here. Are you the manufacturer?

My questions: Are they identical in build and strength? Did the black one replace the gray one?

I see that the black one has a Cinch Ring that the gray one doesn't, but is that and the color the only difference?

They are identical products, the colors were discontinued and we only carry black now.
