Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 SP Di VC USD - opinion

Here are a few pictures I took of a couple for their engagement photos last month.

Very down to earth outdoors people. She wore no makeup at all..

All are the Tamron on my Nikon D7100.

$untitled-4435.jpg
98mm f3.2 1/640 I like the bokeh in the background

$untitled-4464.jpg

82mm F4.5 1/2000
$untitled-4487.jpg
180mm F4.5 1/2000 The 4.5 is nice and sharp. The background is dirt/old cinderblock about 15 feet away.

$untitled-4507.jpg

75mm F2.8 1/640 The ring and hand are sharp.

All are handheld. I really did some button control for the last one to keep the ring and hand sharp at 2.8

Just bought the Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 SP Di VC USD...
And a 2x TC...

Lets see how it will go...

I bought the Nikon 70-200 2.8 VR2, and my only complaint comes shortly after I put it on the camera. Could they make it any heavier if they tried? Try carrying that thing around for an afternoon, and you can skip the visit to the gym.

Well, the Sigma 70-200 mm OS I have is about 3.1 lbs, I think the Nikkor VR II is a little heavier at 3.4 lbs but all in all fairly close in weight. The way I manage mine is to use a Black Rapid RS-5, I connect that to the tripod ring on the Sigma. I can carry it all day that way and it's very comfortable.

Grab a black rapid strap and you'll never complain again. :biggrin:

You now I have to admit before I bought the first Black Rapid I thought, $70 bucks for a strap? Are you kidding me? Now that I own one I'm just kicking myself for not having bought it earlier. I love the RS-5, I can carry the camera and the 70-200 mm all day in comfort, have room for spare batteries, memory card, microfiber cloth all in the storage spaces built into the strap - I don't need a bag at all really. Best $70 I ever spent.

The Tamron weight is of 1.47 kg | 3.24 lb | 51.85 oz
It feels and is heavy!

Here same sample shots with it (just playing indoors and in the evening), and my D5200:

Very, very sharp!! Specially using f/4.

Right after that, I tried the "Bower 2x DG-II Teleconverter Pro (7 Elements)" with a Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO DG HSM Macro, that made it behave like a 140-600mm f/8-11 lens. Here some "just for fun" initial macro shots with this configuration in the D5200:

@440mm, f/11, 2 sec, ISO 100

@600mm, f/11, 1.5 sec, ISO 100
teste04.jpg

@390mm, f/11, 20 sec, ISO 100

I liked the results so far. Let's see after the real tests outdoor, in the weekend.
