I usually shoot for the purpose of B+W conversion when it comes to people photography, but this recent shoot has me stepping outside of my comfort zone.
I showed this shot in B+W, but I decided to give it a different processing than I usually do and I actually like how it turned out. I will say that my monitor
isn't color accurate and I can't seem to calibrate it so I had to go on what my ipad looks like and on my iPad it seems to be pretty good.

C+C always welcome.

IMO, I like it in color because you can see better details of the tattoos on his arms. But B&W would be good, too.

Well, the title fits. (just a little humor) I do like the b&w better myself. I like the face being brightest, but the arms almost seem a little yellow (over-pushed?).

Why are your subjects framed so tight they ride the edge of the frame? I've seen you do this repeatedly. What's your rationale?

I like the tension. I don't know about repeatedly though, maybe one other time.

I gave it a pretty strong tint and oversharpened it to give him a leathery look.

and it looks oversharpened, not leathery. also the face overwhelms the tats, which are equally interesting. part of the issue is the arms are a totally different WB. this seems to be in the PP and not the actual lighting (the hands more closely match the face). with such an interesting subject i don't think you need to push it that far with the tint and sharpening.

I like the tightness, but I also tend toward overfilling the frame. the background is also pretty cool.

In the original SOOC shot, his arms are much much darker than his face and the color of his face does not mach the color of his arms. Maybe due to fall off? I added a tint to the entire image and not to portions. The original image wasn't processed like this, but I wanted to over do the drama a bit with both the color and the sharpening in the second edit, even with an already interesting subject. In fact, the interesting nature of this subject is what made me want to give this alternative processing a shot. Maybe I missed the mark though.

The background is drawing attention. Other than that pic is fine.

In what way?

I didn't notice it until you pointed it out, but the vest is a black hole, and the bricks in the background are popping out at the viewer more than the subject itself.
The guy lacks a body.

i do like the photo though.

I can't say that I see the same thing on both my monitor and ipad. You can't see his body at all?
