We were wanting to stay under the $300 mark and from I've read from some of the replies, is that moving to a 300 lens isn't going to see much difference. It might be advantageous to just stay with the present set up and wait for the play to come to our side of field before shooting.

Good plan. While you might miss the play of the year on the opposite side of the field, there is something to be said for getting a really good shot that is closer.

That's one of the errors a lot of mom and pop sports shooters make. Shoot from the opposite side of the field than you bench as well as the home bench side. You generally want to shoot with the action going to your left. Most athletes are right handed, right footed. Their open body is then to your left facing the field.

If you want good shots you have to be quite being a parent, forget you have a little girl in the game and pay attention to the action and only the action. You need to concentrate on the action, anticipate where the ball is going and catch the action that you know should follow.
