Test for forward-focusing?

Hi all. I think my Nikkor 80-200 2.8D may be focusing too far forward. I set the fine-tune to -12 on my D300s and the photos were looking wonderful. The next day (today), I cannot tell the difference between the photos with and without AF Fine-tune turned on. Is there any specific method to test and dial this in?

I do not know about fine tunning, but I think this test may help.
