Text Pics from the bible

I can only see one for some reason..probably the computer I'm on.
The one that I see looks a bit OOF. It's a neat idea, I just wish there was more focus on one specific word or phrase.

HA! Nimrod. I love that word. Thanks for posting that,now I know where it came from. I'm such a Nimrod :-)

I'd try a slight underexposure with a candle or something as light source to give it that feeling. Might be a bit clishe though.

I like that idea.

With a point-and-shoot camera, you're not going to be able to get that severely shallow depth-of-field that is typical for these kind of shots, so using lighting as a way of bringing out a certain word or phrase would be a nice option.

Also, this seems like kind of a random passage; is there something about it that speaks to you, or were you basically just test-driving the idea?

maybe put a white sheet of paper under the photo page since the next page shows through.....might be the backside though. maybe less direct light so it doesn't get translucent.

I'd agree with Higgs Boson's suggestion to put a sheet of paper underneath the page being photographed, but as in scanner operation, I think a dark-colored sheet would be better than a white sheet. A sheet of black paper ought to help darken everything underneath,and make the type on the other side stand out less. I have seen these pages of the Bible photos quite a bit over the years--the concept is okay. What makes or breaks these shots is the ability to actually see and to read the words, and the relevance of the passage shown, so extreme tilting of the Bible or the camera that prevents a good reading of the words kind of hurts the shot, IMHO. Another factor is how close the camera lens is, and what foal length is used; shooting from closer distance, with a shorter focal length, makes the words drop off in size rather rapidly in the background, wile using a longer focal length from farther away, keeps the words more even in size from the foreground to background. So, some experimentation is needed.

Well, the black sheet instead makes more sense, that's why I am a learning member here....I never thought of any paper other than white since I am not very artistic....lol, now I remember all my childhood days cutting and gluing construction paper!

They are well done concepts with one big objection. This composition needs carefully selected passages to be photographed. Randoms selections just don't work.

This works:
"Zechariah 14 12 And this shall be the plague with which the LORD will strike all the people who fought against Jerusalem: Their flesh shall dissolve while they stand on their feet, Their eyes shall dissolve in their sockets, And their tongues shall dissolve in their mouths. ." NKJV

This works:
"Isaiah 11 6The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. 7And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
8And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den.
9They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.
10And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.
11And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.
12And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth." KJV

This really don't work:
Matthew 1 2Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas and his brethren;
3And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram;
4And Aram begat Aminadab; and Aminadab begat Naasson; and Naasson begat Salmon;
5And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;
6And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias;
7And Solomon begat Roboam; and Roboam begat Abia; and Abia begat Asa;
8And Asa begat Josaphat; and Josaphat begat Joram; and Joram begat Ozias;
9And Ozias begat Joatham; and Joatham begat Achaz; and Achaz begat Ezekias;
10And Ezekias begat Manasses; and Manasses begat Amon; and Amon begat Josias;
11And Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon:
12And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and Salathiel begat Zorobabel; KJV

Hehe, just because the begats are a boring read doesn't mean they couldn't ever make for an interesting photograph depending on the rest of the context. I can think of ways it could be used for a birth announcement or something, for instance.

The essence of your point is spot-on though - there needs to be a reason you chose whatever passage you chose.

By the way what Bible is that? I've never seen the study notes embedded in the text like that.

1) The last may indeed be interesting. Especially to Mormons and family tree etc.
2) Al great many study note references are embedded next to the reason they are included. Center column reference comes to mind especially.
3) Those are not study references they are verse numbers.

No, I know that - I was actually referring to the OP's photos. The lines of text in red are study notes. Usually cross-references are noted in superscript with the actual verses listed in the margin or footer, and a Bible with study notes usually follows a similar format but has a portion of the page devoted to just the notes; I've never seen them integrated like the ones in the OP's photos. It almost looks like some sort of Amplified translation. I was just curious. :)

Yeah, I've never seen the notes presented that way either. Kind of annoying I think, but that's just me. Looks Dispensational, with the reference to the Antichrist rebuilding something (probably the Temple) but that's not a discussion for the photo forum.....
