Can others edit my Photos
Photos NOT OK to edit
First off we NEVER talk about PE, we just pretend it didn't happen.

Secondly behind the scene there are a great many discussions about issue that occur. Most of which have the mods split as to the course of action. People will explain their sides and everyone will reach a consensus. That isn't to say a few folks won't go rogue every so often.

Lastly, I am only a mod lite so I can't do much.

derailments only lead to new and exciting paths of innovative discussion.

You're preaching to the choir about the discussions behind the scenes, I've been around the block a time or two. I've also seen the unduly heavy editing been done to keep a thread on track and alive. But I did not see..... well maybe once, an effort to thwart the "one" for jacking the thread. Edit his/her/it's post and be done with it. Let the thread ride.

There's no need to be wary of discussion. The only reasonable answer is......

http://www.thephotoforum.com/forum/general-shop-talk/357750-how-much-money-have-you-invested.html Talk about premature ejaculation..... What happened to the SOP (of late) to editing out the offending posts? One sorry sod should not be such a dictator to an otherwise interesting thread. (Not you Manny.) If locking is the only recourse for abuses now, then perhaps adding a new moderating team member should be considered for further discourse.

Was an entertaining thread to read though :-P

Ooh bummer
it got more than derailed ... It went off the tracks and exploded. Insults like that are not nice,

Now I'll never find out what tree fiddy is.

True true but I like that part where it was discovered that the photos were taken by a different camera. It adds to the suspense whether bace own those shots :D

Yes, that was interesting.
Though I looked at a photo too and it had a T2i though with a nice EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM lens
and Photoshop

of course that one photo EXIF has the 5D m3 with the same lens above.

Seems like one person gets on the forum and causes a bunch of problems. Maybe that one person should be handled? And by one person I mean bace.

Particularly when that one person says right off the bat that when they were here before, they were basically a troll. AND when that one person seems to have accumulated a HUGE percentage of closed threads in a very short period of time since returning. AND when that person actually uses the word "retard" in reference to another person's clients…I have never, ever before used the ignore feature (came really close two or three times) but if this keeps up, I will finally have my first use for it.

I think that was a situation where someone with the company probably should step in and handle it directly, whether that be suspending an account, giving a warning, or just going ahead and closing out the user account.

I didn't deal with this, but in my experiences cleaning a thread of insults is a very difficult thing sometimes. When you get posts where you've got legitimate comments and insults/fighting taking place it becomes very hard for a mod to edit that post to remove the bad and preserve the good. It gets even more tricky when you've got a messy series of posts like this all jumbled together. It's a fair bit of work to untangle it and often as not once a thread has been soured with a prolonged fight it tends to die even after cleaning. Those who were most active at the end were the ones in the fight and when their comments are removed they either move on or they resume the fight.

So you end up with either a continuation or a dead thread - a lock is often the more prudent course of action.

Note that where a derailing takes a subject far off its original setting and where the derailing isn't inherent to part of the subject in discussion mods generally don't mind if you start a topic up again after a lock. It's only when the subject itself is the course of the contention and problems that we expect users to not restart a thread after one was recently locked.

When I was a lifeguard and one person started a fight that drew a couple of others in, we didn't close the pool, we ejected the troublemaker and warned the others.

When a thread, with two of the mods posting in the thread and seemingly taking no action, gets closed, what is going on behind the curtains is inscrutable from the outside.
Further, I lose confidence that the mods have a clear and consistent view of what is going on and how to act.

There were two mods who were active on that thread - and only one troublemaker.
Several people tried to shut him up, with no effect.
This fracas didn't need a meeting or a committee; the individual should have been bounced immediately for violating the Rules.

Closing the thread was a slap at everyone who was in it and it gave the disrupter exactly what he wanted, at everyone else's expense.
