I'll second and stand behind Lew here - I think it would have been better to delete his posts and give him a personal warning, while letting the others continue on in normal form. If he doesn't take the hint after that it's time to take a harder stand against the individual, not the group affected.

This really isn't a response to the 'discipline' but to the way discipline is imposed; the Forum as a whole suffers when a thread is closed.
I must admit that I am surprised by your response #2 as if we were talking out of turn.
This is the feedback forum and I assume is supposedly for this kind of suggestions.
Those who signed on to agree with this are suggesting a course that we think would improve the Forum.

Many of us have experience moderating in other places, and we appreciate the unpaid, unsung work of moderating, but doing the job doesn't make anyone infallible or immune from suggestions for improvement.
If people buy into the Forum enough to make considered suggestions, that should be a good thing.
Even if suggestions aren't acceptable or don't make sense, we would expect a courteous response rather than a suggesion that we get it for nothing and don't deserve any input.

It never fails to amaze me that some of the people calling for ejection of trouble makers... Are often the people who would fall under the heavy hand of that approach themselves.

You all also assume that we moderators aren't taking action, just because you don't see it. In this specific case I came down on the key offender like a ton of bricks. There's no reason any of you should know this, but I think it's illustrative.

Also... I don't clean threads. People wind up complaining about being censored, and frankly I think leaving offensive behavior in place with moderator response shows we see it as unacceptable.

OMG--I thought it was an attempt at jocularity!!! Might tirediron NOT have been trying to be jocular? Might I have assumed the best, wrongly? Does that mean he's not a jock, and is a member of the "soc's", instead? Or even worse, the greasers???
