The Annual Colt Branding - Spur Headquarters Ranch

So my aunt and uncle work horses on a fairly large ranch near my hometown of Spur, TX. Every year they have several ranches (because more than one ranch keeps their horses at Spur Headquarters Ranch) come and help brand the colts. I didn't think it was a huge event, but my aunt said they've had upwards of 70 people, including spectators, show up in the past. This time there were about 40 people total.

I'm working on a blog post about it, but I still need to get some pertinent information from my aunt, so here are some of the photos of a modern, yet not too modern colt branding operation.

There are some interesting characters that's for sure. Unfortunately, a lot of the traditional cowboy culture is dying out as the younger generation is coming up and either losing interest or doing things differently. Different isn't always a bad thing, but working cattle with a fourwheeler instead of a horse just seems to cheapen the experience.
