So this is my dear friend Abby and she consented to come on a shot with me and after she saw this picture she said she loved it and showed it to her mom and now its up on the wall in her living room!! So this is my first big success (haha in my mind big success) picture but I am always looking to get better so please give opinions and don't go easy I want to get better thanks!!!

I love the orange against the blue... very nicely opposite which causes a nice pop to the image. It could be web compression, but I'd like the image to be a little less soft and to have the empty space to be in the direction of the turn. Here's an example to show you what I mean:

I like the contrast of the orange on the blue background, and I really like the grunge looking background as well.

A couple of suggestions from me...

I agree with what oldmacman said with the cropping. It helps to have some room in the photo where the eyes are going. It felt a little close to her before. Your eye naturally follows where the eyes are going, and you want to leave some space in there for the viewers eye to travel.

It also looks a little over saturated to me. If I were to try a couple different posing options, I would tried her back flat against the wall, and then shoot directly in front of her...it looks like you are at a slight angle to her and the wall, and she's at a slight angle too and it doesn't really work in my opinion. You could also try having her lean like she is on the wall, and then you could also lean on the wall and get a nice shallow depth of field with the wall blurry in front of her and the background blurred behind her.

Also...I know I'm nitpicking, but you said don't go easy ....it feels a little awkward to me with her leaning on that black knob. I'm also not too crazy about the angle she's looking up...that feels a little awkward to me too. I would maybe try her looking at you, or looking off to the side a little bit, but that's my personal preference too.

I was going to say the doorknob is in the way but over-all i like the photo, oldmac's edit is definately an improvement but the inital photo is still good.

The sleeve on camera right is wrinkled, but my eyes went right from hers to her left arm - the shirt looks weird there, almost looks like it was smudged up in PS. Agree that it looks soft and could do with a different crop too, but I do like the complimentary colors

Did you enhance the eyes? It's probably the saturation that has been mentioned, but they look a little too intense, just a bit over done. Other than that it looks really good.

I did (using the burn tool) enhance the light reflections but other than that I didn't do much because she really has bright blue eyes

definitely have her look into the camera... she looks like she has gorgeous eyes. They probably don't need any enhancing either.

Nice shot overall.. great colors! Focus on the eyes... that is where we look first!
