The Coffee House

Long night for us. Just after midnight I was awakened by strange noises from DW. Got up to find her unresponsive and in the midst of a Grand Mal Seizure. Training kicked in, rolled her to a recovery position and called 911. By the time they got to us she was starting to come around, but extremely confused. Transported to ER where they ran all the usual tests heart, lungs and blood, fortunately she continued to improve rapidly. No idea why she had the seizure, sent us home with instructions to follow up with her Doctor, and come back if she has another one.😒 Got back to the house at 7, but to wired to sleep. She had a mild one a few years ago, nothing like this one.
Holy crap, I'm so sorry! That must have freaked you out, training or no. (I know there's a side position you're supposed to get people in, but I don't recall which side.) Glad you got her in, and that she rebounded and is home now. Seizures are just unpredictable, which is partly what makes them scary. :(

Sorry to hear that. Hope things improve.

@terri I always hated the seziure runs, other than keeping them from hurting themselves there isn't much you can do for them, just let them ride it out. .Never realized all those years of training would be needed on DW. Once you follow the ABCs (airway, breathing, circulation), you move them to a recovery position (depending on injuries) on the side. It helps keep the airway open and makes it less likely they'll aspirate. Doesn't really matter the side to my knowledge. For those interested, even a small person can roll a large person.

Oh no! So glad you heard and knew what to do. Hope the doctors can figure it out.

I read that too, but I forgot where.
Maybe you had more than two and forgot!

Does it work if you save them up for the end of the week and have them all at one go?
Sure give it a go.

Wow! How frightening for both of you.

Damn. Glad she is OK.

Thanks all. So far so good, we get through the night without another one and I'll breathe easier.

Managed to walk down all the stairs and back up today, then did some resistance band workout and feel pretty good. Thank god for having morphine to stop me getting breathless.

That sounds like some improvement! Good to hear. :)

The process begins, just got back from visit with DW's GP. Referring her to a cardiologist and neurologist to check for other issues that might have triggered a seizure. Call into her Onocoligist for potential issues with her chemo treatments.

Hope the team of docs get it figured out.

Praying for the best outcome for you. There are so many things that can be a trigger, so hopefully they will get to the root cause quickly.

Oh Smoke, sorry to hear that. Good thing you knew what to do, and that they're running tests and checking things out.
