What's new

The Coffee House

Hoping I've turned the corner on the worst. No fever yet this morning and sinuses freeing up, still slight sore throat, and feeling wasted. DW started the Paxlovid regiment earlier in the symptoms than I did so she's a little ahead of me. Be glad to see this stuff gone.
That's excellent news, Smoke! This stuff is supposed to have the potential to work swiftly.

Hosers. I just have to brag.

This morning, my niece is in Washington, D.C., at the Supreme Court. She is there, along with a select group of other attorneys from across the USA, to participate in a swearing in ceremony. After being sworn in, she will be able to argue cases in front of the Supreme Court justices.
It's no small feat to get to do this. You have to apply, submit numerous forms, have an advocate of some kind, and convince them that you won't wilt under pressure. She found out over the summer that she had been accepted.

She was at my house for Thanksgiving and was getting on the plane to D.C. the next day, to do touristy stuff over the weekend and get ready for this ceremony.

She was a practicing psychologist for 16 years before deciding to go to law school. Her career has taken off. In other words, she's a total bad ass. :586:

Hoping it works for you. I took paxlovid both times I had Covid and my symptoms cleared within 48 hours. I am one of the ones that the paxlovid gives a really gross metallic taste in my mouth but otherwise had none of the other possible side effects. My mom also took it successfully with no side effects. I have an aunt that took it and it made her very nauseous so she had to stop.
I chalking up my short encounter (about four days) with having immediately started with several drops of oregano oil under the tongue every morning and evening. It burns a bit, because it is a "hot" oil, but the after taste is much better than a metallic taste.

That's fantastic! And no small feat! Congratulations to her!

Congrats to your niece! Hard work to get where she is at now

I was reminded today why I hate to get a new computer. Spent yesterday doing file maintenance and clean up, prepping for migration, today I was expecting to zip through until I realized that my accounting software hadn't automatically updated as it should have. That led to 2hrs on the phone with tech support to manually force it to update. Tomorrow it's back to file maintenance. clean up, and backup. Hopefully by Friday I'll be able to start downloading software on the nw box and by next week early I should be done.

Eww. Sounds miserable. My laptop has keys that have just started to act wonky on occasion. This is the kind of thing that will drive me to something new. It has a 17" screen, still sharp, and has all my files.....I get nervous just thinking about it, and dammit Smoke! This post of yours isn't helping. :irked:

My laptop was still doing great, but it's 3 years old.....that's ancient in the tech world. Plus, with all the AI advances I knew it was time. Guess it's good I did, because right after I placed the order the "r" key on mine went dead. Currently using it with a wireless keyboard. Once I get the new one up and running I'll replace the keyboard and use it as backup. Parts and labor to fix it is less than a $100.

Image files are my biggest storage problem. I've started splitting them between two drives, with mirrored file directories. The internal drive is work in progress or current, once completed they're transferred to a 8tb external drive. My Lightroom catalog manages both drives, so the only image files I have to transfer are those on the internal drive. Once i have LR on the new computer its a matter of restoring my catalog and plugging in the external drive.

As I mentioned in another thread, my 2015 iMac is still going strong! Except for the vendor deciding not to support it any more. I'll be looking for a replacement in the next year, and probably referring back to your comments to see how you're making out with this external storage solution. I'm not paying an extra $2400 for a bigger internal SSD.

Adam, once I wrapped my brain around how LR works, it opened up a new world of storage options. For those who don't know LR doesn't give a hoot where you store your images, it just needs to know where to find them. Once it builds a preview, all editing is recorded in the catalog and are reflected in that preview. I've been running two drives for image storage for some time now, with around 20,000 images between the two. My LR catalog manages both drives, with no issues, allowing easy access. While it really doesn't matter if the file structure, names, etc are the same, I've found it less confusing if they are duplicated.

Photoshop requires access to image files which is why I keep my work in progress/new images in a Master Photo file on my internal drive. As I complete editing and the images age I transfer them to Master Photo 2 on the external drive. The LR catalog is perfectly capable of managing a large number of external drives, including online storage.

An interesting side option is that LR let's you create collections that can pull images from multiple files and drives.
