What's new

The Coffee House

@jeffashman I'm not overly squeamish, grew up on a farm, where every fall we butchered cattle and hogs for meat for the freezer, plus hunted/fished, but there's some things that I wouldn't eat no matter how seasoned.

Hey hosers.

It's getting nice and cool here, and I am loving it! Except it's supposed to go back to the mid-70s in a few days, and I do NOT approve.

In the mid-Atlantic region (NJ, PA, MD, DE, VA) we have our own version made from pork - scrapple. Everything but the "oink."
Sorry, but to all versions...

Almost ready for closing.

I found out the lake dam is going to be updated so the lake level will be dropped about eight feet after July 4, 2025. That gives me more time to pick out a boat (keeping the kayaks, too).

Turned on the heat today temporarily just checking that everything is working in all zones and thermostats are ready before we need it full time. Once the daytime temps get stuck below 40, you won’t be able to find a heating person available!

We turned ours on last night; keeping it at 68.

If it’s just me and the dog I don’t really need to have it on yet. We have the electric fireplace in the living room that I can turn in for an hour or two at night and I have a small space heater that I used to use when I was working that I now can use when I am painting. Mom’s suite has its own heat and Princess is at school.

When was a teenager and would complain that I was cold my mom would always say “get up and clean something, you’ll warm up” and that is still what I do! It’s amazing how fast you warm up when you’re vacuuming or cleaning the kitchen.

Bert and Ernie? Heckle and Jeckle?
Bert & Ernie... gonna keep that in mind🤪. Lol...

I named the first 2 Heckle & Jeckle then Stormy, Raider, we lost little Bandit & his brother Swoops was chased off a few months ago.

Smokey & Dusty im thinking Mr, im not 100% sure theres 2 but there both taking up food and going by past behaviour it seems like it to me. Cant wait to meet them.

PS. Mrs magpie was just having a swim in the bird bath and was having a great time just before, gonna have to fill it up again now.

Then there's what I wanted to name my kids but they are six years apart: Thing One and Thing Two.

The import version does not contain the lungs (legal requirement) so is lamb, venison, or beef, sometimes pork, and is in an artificial casing, so not stomach. We will probably get the beef version (Highland Beef, Hydrated Pin Oats, Water, Refined Beef Suet, Liver, Spices and Onions.) to make it more palatable for the more squeamish in the family.
No brain matter in the mix i see🤣, you eaten the proper thing?

My wife has a Dr Seuss coffee mug with "Mother of all Things" emblazoned on it, and we had the t-shirts for the boys, Thing 1, Thing 2, Thing 3, and Thing 4.

Dad always said "cutting your own firewood warms you twice". I remember one year, I bundled up in insulated overalls, coat, gloves, hat and headed out to cut some dead wood. When I left, the truck radio said it was 0. It didn't take long working to shed the coat, and after a couple hours I was starting to sweat inside the overalls. Thought to myself, it must be warming up, but when I got in the truck to take a break, the radio said the the temperature had dropped to -10.

In other news, we had our first frost of fall this morning. Several light patches here and there as Phoebe & I took our morning walk.

Frost on my car but the dahlias were not affected. I think it only dropped to 35-36 last night. Warmer temps returning in a few days.
