The Coffee House

Saw the comet tonight. Pics to follow.
Duh! OK, so what we thought was the comment was actually probably a planet. I think it was mercury. It turns out the comet was behind some clouds in the top corner of my frame and when the clouds moved the comet was there just not a great composition. Didn’t even realize it until I got home and looked at my pics. I may or may not try again tonight. The moon is getting brighter. I’m not sure how washed out it’s going to be.

Circled is the faux comet. Arrow is the actual comet. 🤦‍♀️. 😳

Woohoo! A Scots friend has invited me on the great haggis hunt! There's a limited window in which to hunt them, and you have to go out in the middle of the night, because they hide so well during the day. We are allowed two haggii per person. We'll get them and prep them for Burns Night in January. Menu will be haggis, tatties and neeps, and bottles of Belhaven and Glenmorangie Quinta Ruben 14 to wash it down! Should be a fun time for all!

Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face,

I've had the American version. Not a lot of flavor, so thank goodness for the "seasoning" (Scotch).

I'll be ordering canned haggis which is produced in Scotland (for the US market, so no lungs) and has a decent rating. I'll be making the tatties (mashed potatoes) and neeps (mashed rutabaga), and the cake. Jan 25th is a Saturday, so it'll be a good reason to bring the family in to have a good meal together.

Haggis-A pudding made from minced sheep's offal, oatmeal, suet, and spices cooked in a sheep's stomach. Despite some Scottish heritage this will still be a NO for me.

In the mid-Atlantic region (NJ, PA, MD, DE, VA) we have our own version made from pork - scrapple. Everything but the "oink."

Friends run sheep outside Belleville, ON. No strangers to a nice bit of lamb pluck.
As they always say, "Haggis is offal stuff."

The import version does not contain the lungs (legal requirement) so is lamb, venison, or beef, sometimes pork, and is in an artificial casing, so not stomach. We will probably get the beef version (Highland Beef, Hydrated Pin Oats, Water, Refined Beef Suet, Liver, Spices and Onions.) to make it more palatable for the more squeamish in the family.

On the plus side we got a killer sunset before the comet confusion.
Hey, you still caught some of the comet action, which is more than I've been able to do. Overcast and cold, though the rain has finally moved out. Very windy and still pretty chilly.

I just remembered it snowed on the kids here last Halloween. :icon_eek: I really hope it warms up for them!
