What's new

The Coffee House

Motivation to make a paved swag base, where is it?

Got 3 coolish days to plod along on this now, could be done in an hour "but"😱. No rush anyway, the frames made up just gotta dig it into the hills slop to get it level then fill with some sand and put the pavers in.

Maybe @nerwin might rent out his new toy for the dirt digging bit😉.

I woke up to more snow this morning! I got excited and get out there and plowed. Was only 20f with a windchill of like 0f. Cold yep, didn't care. Tractor time always worth it.

God dam it. Ive got another bird out there with a broken wing. A young crow, i cant get another life put down again. Fk.

The magpies are harassing it a bit, dont know what to do. I dont want to take another to the vet. Why are all these birds with broken wings turning up to my yard.

Which Crow and what yard ... ?
Got a crow or raven that can't really fly he's mostly fluttering around, he doesn't seem distressed or in pain. Seems he can get in and out of the backyard here as he was out the front this morning but ive had him most of the afternoon in the backyard, he's just wandering around the gardens.

He seems pretty mellow so im just gonna feed him/adopt him if he wants to stick around, im happy to do this Mr.

So i feel a lot less stressed than yesterday.

Heigh ho, Hosers! I hope everyone is having a good weekend! On a whim a purchased a 20lb capon at Kroger. It is currently in the oven roasting, stuffed with lemon wedges, onion wedges, and fresh rosemary, sage, and thyme. The bird is coated in olive oil, salt, pepper, and garlic, and potatoes, carrots, onions, and celery are simmering in the pan in a bath of chicken broth. Will do up some buttered peas and carrots later. Dessert is a lattice cherry pie. Just because. Who needs an actual holiday to celebrate a good meal? We need more holidays for feasting... just celebrate life itself!

Live it up! Necessary to eat for your old age...Hoping to help pull off a "Pagan Roots Reconnect" thing for the upcoming Solstice. Searching now for a suckling pig. Like I really need to get involved with hardcore Valhalla-style Nordic feasting so close to the Christian festivities. But then I'm weak...
Your meal sounds exquisite!

Prepping with a couple of bottles of New Belgium Trippel ale. Wife is now pestering me with, "Is it ready yet?" and the house is smelling amazing. One more baste and another 15-20 minutes, and it should be ready to bring out of the oven and let it rest for a few minutes. I sent out an open invitiation on the family chat, and only one of my sons accepted... more for me... 😁 I'm not for the "red wine with red meat and white wine with white meat," so it's a petit syrah with the meal. What are we celebrating today? Hmmmm. Maybe the overthrow of another tyrant, I don't know. But it should be a good feast regardless. Does't require something to celebrate to eat good, especially at my "old age..." 😂

Live well, my friend. By law, Ontario doesn't import any of Quebec's excellent craft beers. Faves are their Belgian-style brews, those syrupy 7-9% dark bottles. Lambic beers rely on wild yeasts. Love 'em to cook with and drink. Reduction of the forces of reaction is always welcome! Prost!

I can smell all this good food from here ...

Yep, the NB Trippel is a good rendition of the Belgian original, and it is 8.5%. As for the capon, I've decided that we will be doing those from now on rather than turkey. The meat is more tender and flavorful, and the aroma is just so much better. I was sceptical about the lemons, but they added just the right amount of flavor to the bird. My #2 son and his wife joined us, and it was a good time had by all. And enough leftovers for some nice chicken sandwiches during the week. Saved the carcass to make a nice broth with.

Welcome to The Coffee House, where there is no competition, no Leaderboard, no C&C, and no stress. It was started by small group of TPF gnomes who not only like photography, but also like to share coffee, cinnamon buns, poems, and stories.

Pull up a seat, grab a cup, and unwind!
