There are several areas in TN that might fit. No income tax, temperate region, and if you locate away from the major hotspots the cost of living is great.

My Inlaws live in Mount Juliette, which was one of those nice places, until everyone moved in. I've looked at the Chattanooga area, and out east just south of Knoxville along the river. Just have to convince my DW that we need to move someplace else...

Agree Bluesky is chill. I follow other schnauzer people and some from TikTok. FB has become toxic. I do enjoy my FB groups for photography and schnauzers. Mostly on there to catch up with students we've hosted and my daughter will let me know when she posts the grands' photos.
I'll miss TikTok if it is gone. I need to download recipes I've saved. My husband follows a grill master that he has picked up a few tips. Some people I follow are on Bluesky or Instagram.
I don't use Instagram that much. Seems like way too many videos and ads.

I signed up for BlueSky, and for the most part I like it, but I need to get the algo to eliminate political posts from my feed. I posted an image and had a like within something like 15 minutes, which surprised me. Probably a bot... @jeffa18.bsky.social

Yup the sprawl around Nashville keeps getting larger, you'd probably need to get closer to Cookeville on the east. I live an hour from Chattanooga, nice place but the rapid growth the last few years has made traffic on the one major Interstate through it a nightmare. Knoxville has some nice areas as does Maryville. Over on te west side Jackson is a nice size, to big but you don't feel like you're in the sticks. And of course the Smokies are great, but you'll pay unless you find a place hanging off a mountain.

I just want to thank everyone for the happy birthdays. I appreciate it. I was thinking it was going to be a terrible day but turned out better than I thought. It was a quiet day overall, did some baking too. Even had time to go for a near 4 mile run! Almost PB. My mom read me happy birthday wishes from family on Facebook so that was nice to hear, almost thought I was forgotten about but apparently I'm not! Haha.

I ordered a pizza from my favorite place in town, grabbed a slice a cake at a store on the way home and watched Die Hard in 4K HDR.

oh, ans I won $50 off from a scratch off ticket!

With in 30 seconds I got followed by some political user. I haven't even posted anything! How does that work?

Some are bots, some are accounts that try to follow tons of people to get them to follow back and get their count up. I usually just block them. There are also some accounts that have curated lists that you can either block or follow in bulk. Others will post "starter packs" with suggestions of accounts to follow on a particular subject.

I recognize there is going to be some spamming and political stuff, but even when I am aligned politically, if it's an account that posts nothing but incendiary political stuff, I just block it.

You can also search for feeds around particular subjects that you enjoy. I start by just engaging with a few posts here and there.

End of Year Specials:

I used to watch "end of year" specials on TV. Some were all day affairs that started at midnight. I usually found one I liked and alternated between that show and whatever news I could find. If you keep the volume low, it's a passable diversion. It seems that this has translated to the internet. I've watched a few in the past. I just ran across one this morning:

"KBS Kpop" (this one is all in Korean, no subtitles, seems to be all K-Pop groups, about 40 min given to each group)

Once again I will watch all the Christmas Carol movies from the 1930's original up to the most recent one with Patrick Stewart. Lets see, Reginald Owen 1938, Alistair Sim 1951, George C Scott 1984 and Patrick Stewart 1999. Those are the closest adaptations to the novel. I hear the 2024 version, which takes place in a contemporary setting is supposed to be good, but not sure about that, since it technically isn't true to the Dicken's classic.

I recently dropped Dish and went with internet HULU live, Prime, Tubi (free), Peacock (free), Samsung and Visio (free), all at savings of $30/month. The only problem I'm having is choosing what to watch among all the things available. Binge watched several TV shows, watched a ton Christmas movies, and other movies. So nice to have options.

The flooring in the big bedroom is close to being done and the dining room is painted. The contravtor had to replace some of the subflooring as he goes along. You do what you have to.



I guess it's close enough to Christmas for this. I may be moving to Maine, but there will always be a little piece of Maryland in me.
