Correct. The body actually does give several hints that your hydration levels are off, including excess sweating and feeling generally overheated. Easy to blow off until it’s a 3-alarm fire.

Well, $3300 gone has taught me to drink more water! Was in the hospital last weekend with vertigo, hyper tension and SEVERE dehydration. Stupid Scotty!

Dehydration is no joke. I was alone the first time I had heat exhaustion, early September, temps in the high 90s and equally high humidity. I was rushing to load a tractor on my trailer before a rain hit. Suddenly got very dizzy, managed to make my way to the truck and get the A/C on. Took several minutes and a lot of water before I started feeling better. The 2nd time I was on a hose fighting house fire. The heat, humidity and turnouts where knocking out guys right & left. One min I was standing the next I was on the ground. Medics pulled me into the shade, started, an IV & Oxygen, took awhile before I was able to stand.

Please excuse the mess, but it's the start of some place useful. I have a long way to go, but it's taking shape. The furniture is in, at least for now, and I started putting things on the walls. After the other house reno's are done, I'll get working down here. I'm planning beadboard paneling in the office and a slight drop ceiling. Not sure what workshop will get,but most likely drywall and paint. I have an area rug at the other house which I'll bring up in the next trailer load, in a few weeks.

My desk, drawing table (adjustable tilt top) with the tamboret, and an Ikea bookcase. The easel is on the right edge of the frame. Stuff on the wall are a plaque frommy County tetirement, a shadow box with my badge surrounded by patched of the County's public safety agencies (I was detailed as a background investigator when I retired), and a plaque from the Maryland Emergency Number Association. I put together and maintained a web page for them years ago, when I was a member. Also the iron North Arrow. The table lamps are fashioned from fire extinguishers.

The work table (came with the desk), a paper cabinet MLW's uncle made forme when I was taking the art classes ar U of MD, and a TV. More to go on the wall.

The easel corner. Yes,that is newsprint in the door where the know would be. I bought new door knobs but thlatch part of this bugger will not come off. I'll try a jab-hack saw.

Guess the lesson I learned--as usual, the hard way-- was to take breaks(un-male)to rest but also to gauge for hydration and any signs of heat-related problems. A dear RN and EMS friend always chided me that heat exhaustion was usually an XY issue. Statistically likely IMHO.

I was a volunteer FFR for 20 yrs. Even though we were volunteer we trained to the same standards as paid, and were fortunate to be well equipped. We had a paramedic that served as our safety officer who's job was to watch over us and make sure we were rotating out in a timely manner but on an active scene there's a lot going on. You're buttoned up in heavily insulated turnouts, standing in horrendous heat, smoke and steam, with no concept of time. Been many times I only rotated out when the warning went off in my air tank (15-30mins depending how well you controlled your breathing).

This is going to be fantastic once you get everything in there and organized. The rug will make it very cozy. Great man-cave/atelier/mini-office. It's so great this house came with this extra space!

I'm using a converted bedroom, and rapidly ran out of room.

Howdy Folks! What a miserable couple of weeks. Work completely buried me and left me so exhausted that I couldn't even log into here. I haven't been out with the camera in a while, in part due to work, but also in part due the temps and humidity. I have the blood of the desert wanderers in me, but I've reached an age where I don't want to take any chances. I used to blow of 102F like it was nothing, now I don't go out if it's over 95F, which is about every day right now. I've always kept hydrated though, because a little over a decade ago I had a really nasty kidney stone. The Doc said if I wanted to avoid them in the future, drink lots of water, especially on my walks, so I always have water with me when stomping about.

@jeffashman for me it's the humidity, 100+ and low humidity is warm but it's not unbearable. 90 with an equal humidity is past unbearable.

No, I was the "nice" investigator. I was assignerd to the civialian team so mostly Crossing Guards, but I did work on a round of Fire/EMS and assisted with a few Sheriff Deputy and Police Officer candidates.

I wish there was another window in the office, maybe we can add one or two. I want to move the wall, where the desk is, between 16" and 24" to expand the space. There is space thoug that is a load bearing wall, so a beam will have to go up. The new extension should allow us to reconfigure that end of the basement. The bottom of the stairs are awkward, so a redesign of those (and the head-banging duct at the bottom) would be welcome. Currently when you get to bottom of the steps, you take one more step down to the left for the utility/storage area, or one step and the ramp to the office & shop. If I can rework it all with the extension, I'll have the stairs continue straight for two more steps, move the duct forward so it stays above head level. Perhaps the best way to expand would be under the extension.

I also have a pair of hanging extinguisher lamps that I got for putting over/behind the bar at the MD house. I got them at The Barn Show in Annapolis. Family friends own the place and we've gotten quite a few things from there. Where dad had a railroad theme, I was going with Fire Department with an influx of Jeep, using a "brush truck" mural using a real Jeep grill. If you've ever been to a Firehouse Subs sandwich shop, you get the idea. I'm not sure if I will put a bar here; I no longer drink though I do cook with alcohol. I have a heavy oak cabinet that I can use for part of a bar, so maybe.

K-Pop Demon Hunters

A Canadian poet said something like "if you want to be a successful artist, you have to be aware of more than just your own field". Apply this thought to photography and it means you should listen to music, go to art galleries, read books, and yes, watch movies -- including animated ones. So lately I've been seeing that the internet is flooded with "K-Pop Demon Hunters" related posts. I won't get to see it in the near future, but I have been watching a lot of documentary material about the movie, and some reactions. Anybody have any thoughts about it?

Apologies to the membership. I clicked something this a.m. and got a notification that I had received a trophy. I clicked that and got several other notifications. I'm a firm believer in showing my appreciation. I didn't know about these and have not thanked the individuals who sent them. I tried to find that info today, and so far have been unsuccessful. I am not technically gifted, add to that a terrible, ongoing bout with Lymes (it plays havoc with your mental acuity), and I may have committed various infractions, and faux pas here. I do apologize and commit to learning the site better. YOU TPF must share some of the blame. You show me dozens of new, fantastic photos each day and get me all distracted... shame on you!
