The view from my desk this morning. It's been so ***** hot lately, I haven't been able to mow the pastures since spring. I had small trees growing. Hit 3 ground wasp nests and a Bumble Bee nest but I was traveling fast enough and the Brush Hog, left them disoriented, so none got me.

Opened a bottle of the last run of 2024 Fig Wine. I used a different Oak aging on this one, it's good, but not as good as the previous Oak method used. That's what's so frustrating about this hobby, is there's so much time involved, in experimenting First run of 2025 in the fermentor this weekend.

Stats from a Coffee Survey: Inconclusive

A coffee expert ran a survey about good coffee. What he got was "Inconclusive" results. But the secondary conclusion is that the test needed to be better defined, or ran more strictly. It was not surprising, but I did get a better idea of what good coffee might be. At least what his idea of what good coffee was. The Hummers must be loading up for their trip south. They've been in a feeding frenzy all week. Just filled the feeder yesterday and already half gone.

Lots of activity right now up here as well. Our resident hummer has been very busy trying to chase away all the travelers that are stealing her nectar!

I was surprised at the number and boldness. I was sitting on the deck not more than 6 feet away from the feeder while more than a dozen of them swarmed around the feeder and me. There were a few brightly colored ones, but the majority were mostly muted/drab. Assuming they were either immature or females. Throughout the summer there were a few beautiful ruby throated ones that tended to be bullies and very territorial.

Finally some actual rain today! It only lasted a couple of hours but it was steady, not like the 5 minute deluge we had the other day. Looks like it’s going to rain off and on all day today.

Yup, same here: off and on every 3-4 hrs for the past 3 days and much needed.Goofed off this morning and weeded rose beds and borders at the family ruin. So easy to extract 'em from damp soil. Getting very fall-like up here.

Lay out, relax, it's Labor Day weekend! The ruin had a buckthorn issue that we finally dealt with today. Damn things must be separately bagged from yard waste and routed into the garbage stream with other invasive stuff. Britbox...Happy Valley was dark but enjoyable. Fingers crossed--likely in vain--for a chance to rerun "Peaky Blinders." I want Tommy Shelby's wardrobe--but not his
gawdawful haircut!

Lazy lobster moved some of the black-eyed Susan’s from the planter box to along the top of the wall at The Rock. They hit a few in before the rain started.

I’ve been binge watching Bones, but I’m about to start sketching the mini-mural in the office. I want to put in a fade-away 1901 flag (star and pine tree) but not sure what else to do.
