Hope all are having a better holiday than me. Headed to the lake for day on the water. Enroute I blew a trailer tire, shedded the tire and ruined the rim before I could get stopped. Also destroyed the dust cap on the hub. Fortunately I had a spare, so we were able to get back home. Just what I needed another job

Thought about it, but the shredded tire knocked off hub dust cover, and I was at the halfway point. Didn't want to risk a hub/spindle also.

Happy Labor Day, to US hosers! Hope everyone is having a wonderful long weekend.

I've been on vacation the last several days - overseas travel I've always hoped to do. It exceeded expectations! The weather in London and Paris was almost perfect - one rainy day on Friday, which was okay since we left on Saturday and were starting to pack up.

Mostly shot my Pentax MZ, but did manage to use the Holga too - we'll see how that stuff turns out. Filled in the gaps with the cell phone and am very happy with the recent upgrade.

So, sure - I've been to the Louvre and Musee d'orsay and looked at some amazing art - but nothing compared to this little shop that I passed on the way out of the Louvre.

Sometimes the stars align! Sounds like a most enjoyable trip. Had a Tibetan Buddhist monk friend in Toronto years back who said that good/happy outcomes resulted from "virtue cultivated in former lives." Maybe. Who knows? Those ducks...Hah!

Hi hosers! Today is the day I finally get my 70-300 back from Fujifilm repair. Now that hummingbird and butterfly season is almost over. It’s possible that I’ve forgotten how to use my AF tracking…I may have to take up birding to practice.

Krakus Inka, Postum, Decaf Coffee
I've mentioned that I've been drinking instant Nescafe lately. I noticed that I had a bottle of Krakus Inka near it. I checked and it was already open. I guess I bought it, opened it, and then it got moved. Anyway, since it's already open, I thought I'd better finish it ASAP. Moisture has not done anything to it. Krakus Inka is a weaker taste and smoother than instant coffee. That made me think about Postum. As far as I know, Postum is still available. I've never directly compared Postum to Krakus Inka. I should do that some day.
[Sep 3, 2025: My original post called this "Krakus Inka" because that was the first name I knew. Looking at the bottle, it doesn't say "Inka". It says "Instant Coffee Substitute". I guess this is a later bottle, and this is what it is probably called today.]

Free from work that is. I do not have to return until the 19th!

I am preparing to leave on a motorcycle ride with a fellow rider. We only have the first two days of our route planned and are going to play it by ear from there.

Those first two days will involve the Blue Ridge Parkway from around Roanoke south to Cherokee. From there, we will go to northern Georgia. After that, the road will guide us!

I am taking my camera and intend to take shots as much as I can.

We're in full hummingbird migration. DW has been filling the feeders daily, as the hoard swarms around them. The numbers seem to ebb and flow as each day passes, sometimes we might have a half dozen birds, sometimes a couple dozen. I could understand how the resident hummer know about the feeders, but how do the travelers know. Do we have some sort of invisible sign in the sky "Free Food", over our house, or do they have a "Hummer search engine", that guides them on their travel?

I believe I read at one point that they remember from one year to the next where the feeders and flowers are. Also if you’re using the traditional red and yellow feeders they are good at spotting them as they buzz overhead.

The first year I put up a feeder we had a hummingbird sighting within a week!

That's what we have. Earlier in the week they were going through almost 4 cups/day between 2 feeders. Late yesterday they disappeared. Haven't seen a one today.
