The Coffee House

My favorite Aunt has memory issues and moved away to live with her daughter. This is one of her favorite photos when she was dating my Uncle. Maybe 1960? In a large town nearby, before malls, a photographer would take photos of random people to sell. I had a scanned copy from their 50th Anniv. project slideshow I did for them in 2011.

I up-scaled it from a 2x3 to 8x10 and colorized. Printed and mailed. She loved it.

@CherylL OH NO! We had one that was iffy, but a quick trip to the dr showed just sinus.

That's a great idea on the old photos, unfortunately I'm the oldest remaining. 🙄

Now the youngest of the three girls is ill. Stuff runs thru that house!

My Aunt is one of three remaining. End of an era

A Merry Christmas!

I might add a picture here later, but for now, "Merry Christmas!"
[Turns out that I didn't take much on Christmas Day. Oh well. :)]

Howdy and Merry Christmas! Wishing you all a day filled with love, peace, and joy. Here in wonderful North Texas the high is going to be 79F/26C, but pretty windy. Our family Hanukkah celebration went very well last Saturday, and then on Sunday we went to the Music Hall at Fair Park to see a showing of Beauty and the Beast. Fantastic, they did an incredible job.

We have a dual purpose fireplace that allows both gas and logs, but we don't do either. This year I found a string of brown and orange lights when I was rummaging through a box, and so I put them on the log holder. With the spark screen in place they twinkle nicely as one walks past it.

My LW went to town last week with the cookie baking thing and baked up pfeffernuesse, Mexican chocolate cookes (spiced with cayenne), butter cookies, and chocolat rugelach. I provided the food for Saturday, latkes (fried hashbrowns essentially), perogies, a charcuterie board with various premium beef salamies, aged gouda, aged robusto, various veggies, and White Castle sliders. A good time was had by all.

Happy Friday Hosers! Can I say, "Ugh!" It's December 26th (Happy Boxing Day!) and it's 86 freekin' degrees (30C) out there... the AC shouldn't be running in December, but here we are... Monday a cold front will come through and drop temps back near the normal range, which should be in the uppder 30's/lower 40's. The fact that my periwinkel haven't died off is testimony as to how warm it has been this year so far.

5F / -15C; up to 20F / -6.66C tomorrow.

MLSIL's birthday, so we're taking her out for dinner. We'll dress warm..

Happy Holidays Hosers! I hope all who celebrate had a nice time with family and friends! We had a very nice dinner with the usual 20 suspects followed by dessert and reindeer games late into the evening. Spent the day yesterday on the couch recovering and watching Stranger Things, eating nothing but cheese and chocolate. Last night went to a comedy show with several of my cousins who are up from FL. It was fun but no more making commitments for the day after hosting a holiday party for me. I would have paid $100 to be able to stay in lol.

We had a very pretty white Christmas after a light dusting of snow on Christmas Eve. Last night we got about 3” more over night. I’ll be heading out to clear the walkways and driveway in a bit. It looks pretty fluffy from inside!

What’s everyone doing for NYE?

I'm glad you had a good time, Sharon.
It was just the four of us and the cat, so we had a laid back day. Opened presents in the afternoon, and had deep fried turkey and sweet potato casserole for dinner. Most of the 18" of previous snow is on the ground. Other than the song, a "White Christmas" is a new concept for me as we didn't get much snow in December in Southern Maryland.

Tinight is the birthday dinner at the local steak chain for MLSIL and one of Lazy Lobster's friends. I'm doing some gereneral house chores until then, and afterwards I'll probably just kick back and watch some TV. I want to go shoot some wintertime photos at one of the closeer lighthouses; maybe tomorrow.

We never really did much for NYE. we'll probably watch one of the parades and the music-related countdowns; whatever the ladies want.

Midnight on New Years Eve around here sounds a bit like WWIII. Everyone whips out a gun and unloads it wherever. Anyone know where I can pick up a case of grenades?

Medieval Christmas

I found this video on YouTube. I am no expert regarding this bit of history, but I didn't see anything wrong in it. For those of you who cook, you might get some inspiration. It was posted Dec 21, 2024 by "thehistorysquad" and runs about 18:53:

Blizzard conditions for the past 24hrs. More to come sez Environment Canada. Cleared once today, will wait till tomorrow. Fun watching the 'hood OCD crew frantically shoveling every 30 minutes-hah! Turkey pie baking. Plenty of Hacker-Pschorr Gold on hand.

Hunker down and wait it out is my MO. No need to wear yourself out every couple of hours unless you don’t have a snowblower.

We had some torrential rains come through here last night and again a few hours ago. The snow is pretty much gone. If temps drop tonight we will be in trouble in the morning. The good news is that it’s school vaca week so there won’t be as many cars on the roads in the morning as there usually are. It will take them a while to salt the side roads. But, I am on a main road and it’s an ambulance route to the hospital a few blocks away so our street is plowed and sanded early and often.
