DW was watering plants couple days ago and mentioned the Christmas Cactus was blooming. Got the camera out yesterday only to find the bloom already gone.

Weather can't decide what it wants to be, either mid 60s or low 20s here.

This is terrible. Geez, maybe before Christmas??

Went with another company. They showed up a day early and diagnosed. Now waiting on parts. And timing really couldn't be worse if it were planned to be. I'm happy parts are available for a 30 year old gas furnace. There was a part of my mind thinking we were buying a new furnace. That would have hurt.

That wouldn't work for me now, as treatments seem to make me colder. Hope they get you fixed

Not in any danger, just annoyed. If it became that bad there are hotels within 20 minutes. I've gotten to the point I recognize what I can change and what is out of my hands. No matter your age there's never enough time so use wisely.

Happy Solstice Day! Or happy birthday to my MIL, she's 91 today. We are hosting the birthday bash/dinner. Wife is making some kind of tenderloin wrapped in pastry thing or such. I'm not a cook, I just eat. lol

Hope it goes well. The furnace in the MD home was a bit newer but only one guy at the company knew the oddball plumbing system (baseboard radiators).

No confusion here, brother. It's just pure crap! Low 20sF, flurries and windy. Got cacti to bloom last year--they just sulked this time. Brighter news? "God Jul!" 12 day eat/drink-a-thon kicks off tonite for the solstice. Happy surprise some of my old crew surfaced in Toronto and will camp out here for a few days. Nice to see the "Lost Boys and Girls" again.

Just discovered two new buds on the Christmas Cactus!!! We may have flowers on Christmas.

Hey hosers. Last week, I went to campus until Wed, worked from home on Thurs, and then started my vacation on Fri. No work until Jan 5th. Glorious!

Had a nice long walk and did some baking. The sweet rolls are either rolled with cinnamon sugar or homemade lemon curd. A bit worried about the lemon rolls rising properly as they were much messier than anticipated. Fingers crossed!

Hopefully I don't screw them up because distribution to the neighbors needs to happen tomorrow morning!

For now, it's some jazz, my fake YouTube fireplace, a snuggly kitty, and some reading.

I would LOOOOOVE to have one of these fireplaces in my house one day:

Man, those are pure mid-century fetishism. Just make sure there's enough excess Danish teak furniture to feed 'em. Seriously, though, a friend giddily snagged one only to find local building codes thought them a CO risk and saw that lovely stove pipe in need of insulated shielding. Killjoys...
Fingers crossed for your baking. The resident Brit cranked of trad Christmas cakes with marzipan topping and royal icing. Think some cute ceramic Xmas totems get stuck on top. Trust an over-refreshed guest doesn't bust some bridgework cluelessly munching a stolen slice.

Busy day - got the Christmas dinner groceries and went shopping with Princess for some last minute gifts - we hit 5 stores before 12. Had a festive cocktail at lunch and then napped for a few hours! Woke up, got out of bed, ran a comb across my head… did some chores and now I’m just enjoying some tv and snuggles with the pup. It’s a Baileys and hot cocoa kind of night here on my cozy couch by the fireplace.

The lemon rolls sound intriguing - how did they turn out?

Those little chimneys look great - you'd have to get it installed to code for good ventilation, of course, but I don’t think you'd ever leave the house once it was in! I love the style.

Thanks for the ear worm. I think a lot of us are huffing and puffing to get everything done this week!

Baking the next two days for me. Tomorrow are the decadent cookie-press cookies, nothing but flour, sugar, butter, and cream cheese. And a shot of vanilla. The press allows for some fun shapes, so they're fun. And addictive. Wednesday is pie day - apple pie with Granny Smith apples. So tart and yummy.

I also have some bitter dark chocolate in the fridge, and French vanilla ice cream in the freezer. I really don't know what's come over me!

I ended up just spray painting the nut crackers. One more coat on the silver one tomorrow, then final sanding and finish the lap desk for Lazy Lobster. I ended up going with padauk (MLW picked it for the red to orange color. Trying to decide on finish: shellac or bowling alley wax. I'll grab both in the morning and puth them side by side on a piece of scrap. Photos when all is done.

NWS has issued a Winter Weather Advisory fir Central Maine, including our tow, from 1:00 PM Tuesday to 1:00 PM Wednesday . Total accumulation of 6 to 12 inches (15.2 to 30.5 cm) of snow.

Sounds like a Jeep challenge to me. Bring it!

Will do! They're very addictive but you get a ton of cookies. I have a tree, wreath and star disc in addition to a heart and even a clover - you can break these out for any occasion.
