What's new

The Coffee House

MLW got her second shingles vax yesterday, so she was pretty much wiped out. I ran a bag of salt to Lazy Lobster's friend in Auburn to help them clear the ice on rhe steps (LL took a spill on them the other night). I shoveled the front of the driveway. Well, I pushed the snow out if the way. I made chicken pot pie for dinner.
Got my 2nd shingles on Wednesday and made the mistake of going to yoga on Thursday morning - I thought I was going to pass out! I had to rest the remainder of the day. Yeek. Arm still sore and red but energy was back by Friday afternoon.

Very pretty snow here last night and this morning. Cleared the cars and driveway and played a bit with the dog - she loves when I throw little snowballs at her. Debating a quick hike around the local reservoir before all the pretty snow is gone…

Big drop mid-week last, brief thaw, then a brutal temp drop over the weekend that punished anyone who left the Slurpee stuff in place. Squalls off Lake Huron today with more ahead driving another 4-5" Wednesday. Blowers busy here and at the Family Ruin. Salt shortage ain't helpin'.
New YakTrax doing a great job keeping me upright and unbruised.

This is too funny. MLSIL and I are headung siuth to MD on Thursday. She figured she'd get a break frim the snow, as we don't usually get much in central and southern MD. The forcast is saying up to nine inches / 22.9 cm of the whitecstuff over the weekend ... more than is expected here in our part of Maine.

I just finished my PT exercises, two of which use an elastic band for resistance. I had to play this.

Update: Now the weather hosers have changed the =forecast to 18" to 22" / 45,7 cm to 55,8 cm.

She is cancelling her appointments.

They keep talking about freezing rain and ice here over the weekend. Need to start/run the generator and fill up the gas can.

At this point there's a small chance of snow Sat/Sun. Storm appears to be a bit too far south to have any real impact around here. Still quite chilly out here. Been hitting the inhaler before I head out with the dog.

MLSIL's house is in Glen Burnie, outside of Baltimore, which is expecting a large amount; and they are typically not as efficient in clearing roads as they are in New England and other places that regularly get a lot of snow. She has rescheduled for March.

Made the wife laugh out loud when I read her the predicted totals for us on Sat, 18 to 24 inches. lol, if we get that much the National Guard will be called out.

The more realistic and mostly believable local says we'll have to wait and see how the system develops. I'm with her, but I'm still going to stock up on beer and cheese. lol

Got my watch yesterday. So far I been liking it, pretty cool.

Unfortunately when I was leaving work, I became very sick and started throwing up. I was up all night it seemed, throwing up several times. I feel alright this morning actually. My dad has the same thing but his been lasting days. Coincidence? I don’t know.

Nope, I didn’t sleep well. Throwing up several times in the middle of the night doesn’t help.

Sorry that you’re not feeling well, there are a couple of nasty stomach bugs floating around. Stay hydrated!. If you’re looking for a great watch face for your Apple Watch check out the one that allows you to customize - you can add steps, heart rate, your sunrise and sunset times, a compass, text messages, the weather, a link to your calendar...

Thanks! Right now I’m just using the ultra watch face as it’s unique to the watch. There’s a lot of cool customizations you can do. Gonna take some time playing with it.

Cold, cold, and more cold for us. The good news is the weather model has shifted north some putting us on the very edge of the freezing rain/ice. Need to gas up and run the generator just in case🤔

According to the weather app that ships with the iPhone, we will get snow Sunday into Monday with a total accumulation of 9" to 11" (22.8 cm to 27.9 cm) while MLSIL's place, just south of Baltimore will get it Saturday into Sunday with 10" to 22" (45.7 cm to 55.8 cm) total. DC's prediction is the same as Baltimore's. We are located in Sabattus, ME, about 15 minutes ENE of downtown Lewiston.

I used to laugh at the news when we did the the "significant" snows in MD ... 1 to 2 inches then an hour later, 2 to 4. The next update was 3 to 6, and on it went. I worked at Police Communications / 9-1-1 Center, first as dispatcher than as a programmer/systems analyst for 9-1-1 computer aided dispatch (CAD) system. MLW started with PD, then went to Public Works and had to either answer phones in the snow center (fielding calls from residents in reference to snow removal), or later, in the "guard shack" tallying salt loads going out on the trucks. She ended up in Fire/EMS HQ and I finished in the IT Department's GIS/Mapping office; both being "essential."

Hey Ya'll, it's been a while. Hope you all doing well.

Sadly I am not doing much photography these days. My job kinda exhausts me by the end of the day and I end up not wanting to do any photo related things. I did finally send in the rest of my film to get developed and scanned, maybe I can share some of my favorite ones here when I get a chance.

I'm still adjusting to this new life and new routine, it hasn't been easy that is for sure. But it's nice to have good benefits and a steady pay check. It took a lot of stress off me financially. I'm excited to finally be able to afford to buy my own vehicle which is gonna be a game changer for me not having to rely on others or borrow others.

Things are looking up for me but it doesn't feel like that. I still feel like there's a lot on my plate that I need to do and I'm just one person. Trying to juggle it all and maintain my sanity is gonna be a challenge in of it self.

I been looking at buying a fancy new watch to help with my tasks at work and not relying to having my phone in my pocket constantly at risk getting damaged. When I am making deliveries or picking up, I often get people texting me and I don't touch my phone while driving, a) it's illegal here and b) it's just flat out dangerous. When I am using my GPS navigation, it would be far more safer to look at my watch while my hand is on the steering wheel instead of looking down at my phone in the cup holder 🤣

So I was looking at the Apple Watch Ultra 3 which feels amazing but perhaps a bit too big. But dang is it a nice watch. Maybe a bit expensive for what I need but it felt better than the regular Series 11 watches, the 42mm felt way too small and crammed, and my mom said it looks like a girl's watch. The 46mm version is better but if I go for the titanium model, it's only $50 less than the Ultra. So I'm like does it make sense to just go for the bigger watch and live with it, could I sleep with it?

Who knows.

Was curious if anyone here had smart watches and could share their experiences.

I think there is some camera trickery going on here as well. The photo looks like the watch is wider than my wrist, it is not. It's also sticking up over 1/8" taller due to their security tether.
I've been taking a break as well. Winter doesn't look good on me... lol I have the Apple Series 10 GPS, and I use it a lot for various tasks, as a timer, monitoring my sleep stats, keeping tabs on the weather without having to pull my phone out, and when I use Apple Maps, it gently taps me when a turn is coming up, which is helpful. All in all, pretty nice. Oh yeah, and I do the Dick Tracy thing when a call comes in... lol

We're getting more snow now with the polar vortex in the wings to firm up the puffy stuff overnight. Road salt shortages aren't helping.
With rare prescience, I laid in right-size shear pins(true hosers know about these!) for the family's snowblowers. Fingers crossed for y'all it's not too gnarly further south. At least some very sexy seed catalogs arrived today along the gardening porn magazines--"Gardens Illustrated" is killer!
