I didn't know Texas had any Buc-ee's! I always associate them with Interstate 75.

Buc-ee's was born in Texas. I have two I can choose from, one about 30 minutes away on I-35 and the other about 50 minutes away on I-30. They are a fascinating place. They should turn them into full-blown amusement parks... Buc-ee World... with rides like Beaver Dam Rush and Nugget Roundup...

Seriously! Why not, they have everything else! I didn't know this was a Texas-born company. They're along I-75 which I've traveled on many times, so I guess I thought it was an Eastern/mid-West thing.

The week of home maintenance ended with an unexpected expense. A new garage door opener. I hope there are no more home surprises!

It was a beautiful day for a small fire. Sticks and dead limbs collected from the yard when I mow the grass. Maine has free open burning permits; have to keep it attended and have a 5-gallon bucket of water, a rake or shovel, and a charged line. I kept it small and controlled.

I couldn’t do this back in the MD county.

Pass the marshmallows!

Ours is manual but the connecting rods between the handle and the latches looks like a pretzel. I can’t find a match at big box home center and am not going to replace a bunch if stuff when the whole garage will be replaced eventually. Hasp and padlock at top of door.

We have rail predicted for nine of the next ten days. The immediate front yard is mowed. I guess I'll get the rest when things dry out.

I was drowning a plastic worm, yesterday. The line got twisted around the spindle, under the spool. I pulled off the spool to get to the line and dropped it. It couldn't stay on the dock; oh, no. I have a nice magnet but the spool is aluminum so it will stay there until fall, when the water level is dropped. I found a replacement spool and ordered it. It should be here in a couple days. Once I recover the original I can run two different lines.

The springs and wheels were replaced 2 years ago. This time it was the motor. The new unit comes with built in wifi and can use their app to close. BUT, it has a subscription! No thanks. We will use the clickers or the car remote.

I saw a funny video where a man gets in his car and starts it. The voice says he has 5 more starts with his subscription. He turns on the AC and the voice says he has 2 more AC with his subscription. And it goes on for using reverse or side mirrors, etc. Funny but sad that everything has a subscription these days.

How deep is it? Is it visible? Could it be dragged closer to the beach with a grapple or a rake?

Depth is four or five feet but water is already cloudy; bottom is mud and rock. We have a very small dock (good for a 14 or 16 foot boat) and it fell right at the end. The replacement spool will be here in a couple days, and I'll retrieve the old one when they lower the pond in November. Last year, while cleaning up I found an ultralight rod and reel. That rod seems OK but the reel action was still stiff after cleaning and lubing). If I get bored I'll wade out.

The pond (Maine terminology is "Great Pond") is about 1900 acres and averages 15 to 19 feet deep. The water level is lowered about 8 feet in the winter. At our yard, the water edge will retreat several yards. I'll go down and remove cans, bittles and other trash before the snows hit. I also want to collect some larger rocks for landscaping. Maybe trim the grass & weeds in spring before they raise the warer level.

My gear is a bit more budget-friendly. I have a couple of the budget (Green Mountain/Silver/Clearwater) Orvis rods; an 8'6" 7-weight and a 9' 8-weight, and an 8'6" 5-weight that MLW got me from LL Bean Christmas a few years back (fly/spin travel set).

I want to get 9-weight and 3-weight outfits, and probably sell the 8-weight. I'm only an hour, or so from the coast so I'd like to try some salt water fly casting, and there are some smaller trout streams nearby.
