What's new

The Coffee House

Crazy! We've had to run the A/C as daytime temperatures are hovering in the high 70's and with all the pollen about, can't open any windows. Looks like I'll be servicing the mower in the next day or two, as the lawn is greening up fast.
You're wearing a mask when you have to mow out in the yellow haze, I'm guessing?

Yep, window screens can't be used this time of year in the South. The air temps are beautiful, humidity low, but you can't let the nasty pollen blow inside the house. It gets in enough just going in and out!

Our house is in the middle of 35 acres of pine, surrounded on all sides by thousands more acres of pine. I have to wear a mask just about anytime I go out this time of year. Last night was rough after running errands, it was a Benadryl AND Tylenol kind of night, still had a lot of congestion. Fortunately it only lasts a couple of weeks, and we have rain in the forecast or several days so It'll clear the air temporarily.

Fourties today and tonight with a chance of wet snow to the north and west. We should just get rain.

Crabmeat and clams (little neck) just delivered. We're making crab cakes and N.E. chowder for Ada when she comes down for the weekend..

Love, love, love good homemade clam chowder. Not something I get often around here.

Crab cakes sound good, too bad I'm so far inland. Nobody's eating anything out of our river! I just got some frozen stuffed salmon fillets, we'll see how those are.

It's been sunny but cold again, the birdies have been liking the sunshine. I often get a cardinal sitting out on the porch railing chirping at dusk. I do better myself when it's rainy, cloudy, doom and gloom type weather! lol I can breathe better. At least the bronchitis is way better, that was a doozy.

I live out with the chickens and the farmers and nobody's planting anything til May, too much of a chance of frost/freeze.

We're on a roller coaster. Low 80's on a couple of days, then the bottom falls out and it's in the 40's. Tulips are popping and should be in full bloom this weekend, especially after the downpour we had today.

Did my mandatory drive into the office that we have to do once a quarter now. We have to go in for three out of five days. It was good to see folks in person, but I don't enjoy the commute. And I put on fifteen pounds in just three days with all the food and snacks we were showered with.

Work County is evaluating the telecommute options. We really don't need to be there evry day (as we proved) but we don't know what will happen.

This is why I can't enjoy spring. One of the gazillion pine trees in bloom around us. The awful yellow dust is in the air, covering everything.View attachment 264440
Here it’s the yellow rape oil seal in the summer. One road onto the island and yes one side of the road is lined with yellow in the summer. It’s like having pepper thrown in the eyes. Can understand your suffering

We are far enough North that we have plenty of hardwoods. We get the yellow "squigglies" from oak trees plus the usual ragweed.

Hi all, dont tell anyone I am here. I am escaping the tv Crufts . Mum loves it, I like some but this is time out as for other probs the external hdd failed and the replacement from amazom did not arrive. Oh well I got lazy and did not do my 3 stage back ups in the last few months.

Double header of college hockey on NESN, Hockey East playoffs. And the NY Rangers are playing... and the CBJ, gonna be flipping channels.

And I'm Doordashing before the snow gets here, altho they've downgraded to maybe 1/2 " to 1". Then 40ish so probably short lived.

This is why nobody here plants til May! lol
