The picture is fine but did he or his guardian agree to you taking and posting this - using him as an exemplar?
I am very sensitive to this issue because I have a very close relative with a neurodegenerative disease.
She goes in and out of lucidity and in a few months she won't be able to make an informed consent about being photographed and the pictures used on the web.

I prefer the first version. For me, the portrait was all about the eyes and I felt you'd already nailed it with the first version. My father had Alzheimer's and when I saw your portrait, it felt immediately familiar. It was the eyes and what you can see in them: the growing emptiness, a deep sadness, exhaustion. In the second version, something is missing. They're clouded over too much, like he's blind. But Alzheimer's isn't blindness.

I'm sorry about your grandfather.

Thank you for the C&C I appriciate it, and yes I can see what you are saying about the eyes and how they might reflect something that is not necciserely part of what I wanted to deliver.

The second one does it for me. The darkness kind of makes the details more vibrant. If that makes any sense at all!

Sorry to hear about the Alzheimer, my great grandmother had it. I wish i knew what i know now about photography. I would've done the same thing. Great picture, plucking at those heart strings some here.
