The Fall of Nikon

i think the a700 actually does have 14bit conversion though. What the hell. lets have a brand war. I'm in a fighing mood right now....

no, Sony is God's gift to the photographic world, the end. I do not want to be in a brand fight they annoy the crap out of me.

you already got into it though.... you fueled the fire by saying that pretty much every camera made by the other companies "pwned " me...
ok. here's my official statement/disclaimer.
IN NO WAY DOES THE TITLE "THE FALL OF NIKON" ACTUALLY IMPLY THE FALL OF NIKON

oh god phil...

you guys gotta admit though... this IS fun, isnt it?? honestly, say whatever you want about sony, but i'm not bashing any other camera brands. Its like a PC user trying to talk smack about an apple... sure, the mac has nice features. why dont i switch?? because its not the big things that i care about, its all the little things that bug the crap outta me. Mac people can say what they want about PCs, but i still have my reasons...

pretty sure that made no sense

I just don't see how you couldn't predict the massive amounts of debate this thread would bring

lol, well, i guess i didnt think about it.... i dont understand why you, a canon user, would be defending nikon so strongly though. my camera isnt that bad, is it?

I dunno I was bored. I actually like the A100, I thought I might have been better off with one back when using the D Rebel XT because of the in camera stabilization, weather sealing, and 10 MP but now I am happy with my 20D :D -I just thuoght that by putting an image like this in the equipment section rather than an appropriate gallery, critique, or digital photo manipultation section saying "The fall of Nikon" AND comparing it to a D3 poster needed to be put in its place a tad*-. Besides, the D3 is better than what Canon has to offer, putting it down means Canon is even FARTHER back.

* between the - marks basically sums it all up, now do you see why this thread can be considered more like YOU starting the brand war?

well, it started when i asked one of my tpf friends where i should put it, and he suggested the equipment thread, so i just did it. i'm not really looking for critiques on the photo or anything, just comments at the most. Its equipment related becasue of the subject of equipment. I'm not claiming that my camera is better than anyone elses (like i've said numerous times) i pretty much made the image so i would have a cool desktop wallpaper. But yeah, the D3 is better than like everything... but i wont ever be able to afford it, so thats why i'm taking pictures of my a100....

okay so........... we're all good (besides that the photo editing seems like a low blow)

Basically Nikon is passing Canon for now with the D3 and the D300 IMO. With Sony supplying sensors to Nikon and with Sony backed by a lot of great technology there isnt much more for Sony to do but release more products to become an equal to canon or Nikon. As of right now Sony is still developing but man give it 1-2 years and it will be much stronger.

yeah, we're good. I'll have a talk with him about that photo editing... lol

Taken from photo.net
--"The Sony Alpha A700 is priced at $1400, landing between the Canon EOS 40D ($1299) and the Nikon D300 ($1799). It does lack the "live view" system, which is present on both the D300 and 40D. It has a slower maximum frame rate (5fps) than either the EOS 40D (6.5fps) or the D300 (6/8fps). Both the Canon and Nikon DSLRs use a 14-bit A/d conversion system. Sony hasn't yet published details on the A/D converter in the Alpha A700, but I suspect it's 12-bits or they would probably have commented on it."--

see, it is still behind.

Canadian prices are usually higher than American but $1299 is the price for the Sony Alpha A700 at one major camera store. It does lack live view but a lot of photographers some with live view are questioning its value anyway. The EOS 40D only shoots at over 6 frames per second until its buffer fills, not until the end of the card like the Sony A700. I have not seen a lab test on the Nikon D300 yet so its specs are open to question.
The A700 is also 14 bit according to Pop Photo.

Actually the D3 and D300 have Nikon's first in house developed sensors..... the Sony sensors are still in the D40, D40x, and D80 though.

in the US right now, the price for just the body is 1399$ i'm hoping they'll drop that price before i buy one though....
