Just count 5-7-5 – yes?

How about a trained linguist and language prof of 20+ years? Enough of an authority? American is 4 syllables. Four. Quatro.

Unless, of course, it's 'Murican, which may work in terms of syllables but its loaded connotation may affect your message.

This is, btw, what Merriam-Webster says. Look at the phonetic script. It's only three syllables if you are eliding the initial A-syllable.
