A few shots of my grandson from this weekend. I was trying to capture how he enjoys running around in open spaces where he/we don't have to worry about him falling and hurting himself. 15 months old.

My daughter is the same age. It's so much fun hanging out with her, and I agree, outdoor spaces are nice and safe.

If you cared to, I think you could use the local adjustment brush in LR to brighten his face a bit. I've had pretty decent luck with using it in back lit situations with my daughter. I usually back down the exposure of the entire photo and then use the brush to lighten the shadows.

Maybe it is me but the photos look over sharpened, your OOF areas are distracting.

Cute kid. As others said, he is a stop or more under exposed. A flash or large reflector is going to be your best remedy on this issue. Also, when photographing young children, it is important to get down on their level- lay down on the ground if need be.

Should be a fun reshoot!

All the above advice is good but I must say that you captured some magical expressions and selected good images. Without those factors all the technical perfection you achieve in future shoots would be a waste of time. This batch is for the family album but if you apply the advice you could be shooting prize winners!

Thank you for the comment. My son and his wife were quite happy with these images and with the advise here the next ones should be an improvement.
