~ The Nose Knows ~ A slight tipping back o' the head, chin lifted, nostrils flared into the prevailing wind. Me gun dogs TRAD and MAC are seen sampling for the scent o' game birds carried on the wind. The ability o' these awesome dogs to pick up the scent on the wind and to follow a scent line put down on the ground by a bird is truly amazing. These lads hunt hard and scour the cover to make flush o' birds to me gun. Their ultimate reward is to make the retrieve on any bird that I may drop. T'is a true joy to watch this duo hunting whilst afield. I continually monitor their movement and watch for the subtle and not so subtle indicators that they are working on a bird. There is a saying amongst trainers and gunners, "trust the dog", and that I indeed do.
