The pic was taken with a Nikon F4s and Nikkor 300/4 AF lens on T400 film.

In Adobe PhotoDeluxe I cropped the image, adjusted the brightness, and smudged out the background for a smoke effect.

This could just be me, cuz I am not a fan of head on shots. I usually like to take shots from an angle and as close up as it can possibly get and still look good. But anyway, the second shot is too soft. But other than that I like it better than the first

I like what you've done to the background, but I prefair the original framing. The original doesn't look sharp to me - the feet are in focus but the head isn't?
