So I am looking for a good tripod. I do not know yet which one to chose.

I would like to have some input from you guys. Which one worked for you?

I will use an EOS 50D + any type of lens (maybe 70-200 IS USM).

I have found this one:
Velbon Sherpa 600R

It is 2.1 kg and can be used with maximal 3.5 kg. It goes from 30-161 cm. Do you think this would be suitable for my needs? (nature shots, event shots, model shots)

or this one:
König Pro

This is only 850gr and can be used up to 3kg weight. It goes from 28-150cm

Look at feisol. I got some carbon fiber legs for 215. they work very well

And also look at Giottos, and Manfrotto, and Benro, and Fastall, and Gitzo, and Vanguard, and..........

Yes that is my problem actually. The huge variety of brands. For example I bought a Vanguard for $50 and in winter (it was -10 Celsius) the plastic part which should fix the legs broke. So If I pay more money now for the tripod I want to use it at least for 5 years.

In photography, generally (not always), the more you pay the better quality product. I got a feisol tripod and photo clam ball head for about 490 shipped. the head is flawless, and the legs do everything i ask.

figure out what you want in a tripod. do you want to travel with it? incredible stability? lightweight? max and min height? once you nail those down you can narrow your search.

if i were to be honest, i would stay away from manfrotto. they have a great name, but their products (i purchased a manfrotto head and legs before the feisol. i paid 200 more for the feisol/ photoclam, but i know where that money went) are not the best imo.

look at bhphotovideo.com, adorama, or reallybigcameras.com. any of those sites should give you help in determining what you want.
