Theme: Breathing

I am doing a project for a college app where I choose the theme breathing. It was not intentionally a black and white series, but I felt the photos were enhanced this way.

Showing the lack of breath (and life) that surrounds us.
How we don't seem to recognize we are breathing until it is our last breath.

Showing the business and fast pace of modern society and how we often forget to slow down and breathe.

I would love some constructive criticism on the pieces. Do they look good together as a collection? Are they strong enough individually? How can I improve the concept? Thanks!

Interesting theme you've got. Not an easy one.
Just yesterday we have had here very interesting discussion:

It is about subjectivity in seeing things and making pictures of them. I think this strongly applies to you. For me only #2 is on the right track, however I have no idea what is the project format. Should the pictures speak by themselves ? Or will be there a strong commentary ? Or the pictures should be just a background to narration ? There might be a different philosophy of taking pictures for each of this approaches.

Each photo will be attached to a short essay explaining how it applies to the theme. Because of this, I figured I had some more freedom (and they didn't have to be so literal!) Thanks for the feedback!

That explains the situation.
After looking some more I think the third picture may benefit from colour after all.

I really like number 2. I think its the only one that could stand on its own.

Number one is a maybe and I think with a good introduction to your thoughts behind it, it could work very well.

Number 3 I'd like to see in color but it does not really do anything for me as is.
