I thought he was leaning on something...his jacket is falling very oddly...if you look at it, it's just bowing off his back, but does at his waist. I thought maybe a think cane/stick thing...something that doesn't show in the film. Why should we believe that the "audience" isn't in on it?

I don't think there could be a brace in his leg...how would that help him balance? When I saw Bowie in concert years ago (it was the Glass Spider Tour), they had dancers doing something like this (but with both fee on the ground). They were using ski boots that were clipped to the stage to keep them solid on the ground...but even still they were using both legs and weren't down as long as he was.

I still think he had something on his back that he was leaning on.
