This is Old School!

Litterly. This school was build circa 1921 as a middle school, serving this small town and later also a high school, untill it closed its' doors in 1965. The fact all the high school graduates being mostly male, went off to WWII and Vietnam, caused the little town to die, leaving now a population of around 30. Now, the school stands emtpy and negleted...which I like!!! Tons of good angles, textures and color. Not much for a problem with lighting, because most of the doors are broken open and the roof has holes in it. Not from chavs, but bad weather. I used my new 7mp digital/zoom to take these, since I haven't used digital in a dog's age, lol. It was fun using it on this site, and am getting adjusted to it. However, the Canon Rebel is far from being retired!!! :lol:

7. Hmm..found a pack of 3M's Dynachrome...sorry had to rescue it. Anyone know more about it?

The school is neat, some of the shots are kind of cool but need a bit of PP work I think... but the datestamp? ? ?

Some really nice work there. Agree with manaheim, a little more post in some, and lose the date-stamp!

Thanks guys. The date stamp! I know...it's on by default and I'm trying to figure out how to turn it off! Rawr! I'm soo old school with my Canon....this digital thing is going to take time to get used to. Another thing is, I'm used to having a lens to grab onto and a view window to stick on my face...I did that once with this digital, lol. My digital is not that big or has that body. Ah well. The pics turned out better than I expected....so I guess I just need to keep practicing with it.

Does it create the feeling of nostalgia in you? Sad maybe?.
Do you think the DSLR will make better picture? I think it is worth reshooting if it is not too far.

These are nice, but I agree with Passerby, I would have shot them with the DSLR. Can I ask why you used a P&S? It has the signature P&S look with some of the zoomed shots.

I know, the digital thing is all new to me so I thought I'd give it a shot....hehe I kan haz pun....

Yes, I have done a shoot with this site with my primary camera. I'm still a film-nazi, I will use film until the last pack of rolls leaves the shelf. All my friends and family say how wonderful digital is...blah, blah, blah. Yah, more convient to "develop", but I still like the results of my 35mm/SLR a lot better.

I'm in the process of moving, but I'll post some of the photos I did of this site in film....uh if I can find them in one of these boxes...

No, no. Not at all like that. It's called UE (urban exploration) is what many people label us. K, here's my story on this all:

I started with my dad's '78 Nikon, he taught me EVERYTHING by age 9. I then was drawn to old places and history, so I just put the two together one day and became a "urban explorer". I did write up a pretty thoughtful essay on why us UErs are drawn to this, and it was quite interesting. Later, I'll look it up and post it.

THIS particular site drew me for two reasons:
1. My great, grandfather went to school there.
2. It's the ONLY cool abandonment in the place I'm in ATM. lol.

So no, I don't do it for nostalgia. I don't know about other UErs, but for me, it's love of history and what's left behind and forgotton. And also many abandonments offer challenging angles, textures, colors, lighting/shading, hehe, and asbestos and gasses, falling debris....

We are careful and respectful as the UE creed goes. Our creed is: "Leave footprints, take only photos". We don't loot, chav, desicrate sites in anyway. We leave it as is, go in; take the shots, and leave.

You're forgetting Rule #1 of Urbex. Don't talk about Urbex.
