Facetiousness aside, what kind of flower is it? I'd like to know. Any flower geeks out there?

Man-bear-pig is real...

Can't tell only a bit is in focus

Yeah...pretty narrow focus for sure...reverse-lens-macro with my Pentacon 50mm f/2.8...I don't have a real macro lens yet...but I don't think having it all in focus would matter much in helping to identify this as one can see the stem, bottom of the flower and some leaves are OOF...but still...you can see that it is a flower...now I need to do my research...unless someone can tell what flower this is even with all the focus issues...

I like that you're super serial; but you spelled cereal wrong. :P It kind of looks like some kind of daisy, though I don't know much about flowers.

cool. i agree with gsgary, focus is a bit too shallow.

when you reverse the lens...focusing does not seem to work...so I get what I get...

When you reverse the lens, you focus by moving the camera forward or back.

Certainly not a daisy like flower but I do not know what it is.

Your DOF is controled by the aperture whether using reversing rings, extension tubes or a true macro lens. The higher the f# the greater the DOF.

Nice shot

The reason that the focus is so shallow is because the lens is wide open when attached to the camera until you take a shot with it. (in order to let enough light in for focus to work)
And when you remove the lens from the camera it stays this way, and low f/stop = narrow/shallow depth of field

Now, if you want to increase the DoF you can increase it by increasing f/stop.
You will have to change the f/ beforehand since the aperture-controls doesn't work while the lens is detached ;)

You can do this by changing to a smaller aperture on the camera (when the lens is attached) then press and hold the DoF-preview button while removing the lens.
The lens should now be at a smaller aperture.
If your camera doesn't have a DoF-preview button you can set the aperture and then activate mirror lock-up and while the mirror is locked remove the lens, using this method is however leaving your sensor vulnerable to dust use with caution.

Hope that helps :)

Noxire....thank you for the insight. However, to let you know, I shoot old glass. My lens stays wide open as long as I don't move the aperture-control-ring (actually it stays where I last set it). I could have gone down a little, but as it was I believe I was at f/4...I could have used my small tripod, added more light and decreased the aperture to f/8 or something similar...

remember, its man-bear-pig not pig-bear-man! Super serial!

I saw a pig and man IN a bear...I was the man and the pig stunk...I'm cereal you guys...why won't anyone believe me???
