here's my attempt to keep up with the raging thread.
if you want to know iso, aperture, and shutter speed for every lighting situation, take some time (3 hours?) to read this. it is exactly what you want to know, and if you can remember all of it then you must be pretty amazing but if you can't check back often and most of it is learnt by experience anyway.
i don't see anything wrong or evil about 'the book'. it offers a lot of things that people starting off with DSLRs need to know.
as for the user manual, i mean, how are you gonna use your camera if you don't even take time to savour the wholly goodness of the user's manual??
one of the pet peeves of people on this forum is putting 'just got a DSLR' and 'gonna get in the bizzzz' together. some of the people on here are experienced professionals and they know how difficult it is to start a business.
this is a forum which means there are all kinds of characters on here and they are all trying to help you (in different ways). if you are easily offended by others then you really shouldn't be asking for help on here in the first place.
and now my laughing emoticon because i am an @$$holeand another one for dramatic effects :lmao:
Hahaha... LITERALLY laughed out loud...Oh.my.goodness... I haven't laughed this hard from an internet forum in sooooo long. I love you guys :

(That is the one you were thinking of - was it not?)

Hey, you brought that on with your unnecessary... flipping out.
If I were you, I'd just forget about this thread... go read your manual... twice... and then go pick up "Understanding Exposure".
While you're reading that, go out and take pictures. When you have some you're happy with (and after you've grown your armor) post them here for critique, take that critique well, apply it, take more pictures, come back and post... etc. etc. etc.
