The thing that makes these three among my personal favorites? I didn't take them. These were shot by my daughter Claire, her first time using a DSLR. I handed her one of my D5200's with an 85 mm 1.8, gave her about 5 minutes worth of basic instruction and she did the rest. What can I say, I was really surprised by the results. She did an amazing job for her first trip. I think she may have also gotten bit pretty hard by the camera bug.. lol.

Oh, Dad! I think you'd better start saving up for somebody's birthday present.

That's great! I like the DOF on the swans especially. And good framing on the elk! A natural eye! How old is she?

I give my son (4.5, in my avatar) my Olympus P&S and I'm actually often quite pleasantly surprised by the snaps he takes. My Canon DSLR is too big for him still, but he's taken a couple pictures of his sister and I when we're out hiking and I put it on auto for him. Start 'em young I say!

Some sweet pictures but no gorillas :sillysmi: ????

Children often have a natural eye for these sort of things. Great shots, and you've got some real competition now. Yup, you should start saving now papa!
Get her a camera and ask her to join TPF, and we won't have to bother you for the Gorilla shots anymore ;)

Man that Pelican looks massive, but then they are large. Nice details in that and the water makes for a great background ..... in both shots. That Swan in front is watching you two ;), very nice look and stare.

Look out, she is taking over, good on her and well done !!.

All the best Robbin, great to see thanks and she is doing just fine.

Danny.

Yup.. looks that way. Will have to give some thought to body/lens combos. She's actually going to Europe this summer so I think I'll surprise her with it before she leaves.

Claire is 16 - and I have to admit I was really surprised how quickly she took to being behind the camera. I figured she was old enough that no auto mode was needed, wanted to start her out without it and see how it went. Was pretty amazed at the results really. The kid can shoot.

Or Kittehs!

You have got to be one proud Papa!

Very proud. I'm hoping she'll be able to make it on Sunday for a full blown zoo trip, I banged up my leg a bit about a week ago and it was still too swollen to walk on last week which is why we hit the Safari park instead. Assuming she can make it Sunday though we'll be doing a zoo walk, so I'll make sure she gets plenty of Gorilla/Kitty pics.. lol

Yup.. I don't think it will be long before the kid is teaching me. On the upside though she's not a fan of my 70-200 mm.. too heavy. Lol. So I'll probably need to get her something a little lighter weight.

Yep, she done good. I envy you the chance to have a home grown photo buddy to go shooting with.

Takes a lot of worry about trying out lenses. I can try one out and if it really wasn't quite what I was looking for she gets a new lens for her kit and I get major brownie points. Lol
