My opinion is that the rest of an image is always important. It's called a composition. The image doesn't work as is, nor will it until the eyes are also in focus.
It's like saying that the pole growing out of someone's head in the background isn't important because the photo isn't about the pole. It doesn't matter if it's about the pole or not - the pole is there, so it's a part of it, and that makes it important.
SImilarly, those eyes are there, so that makes them important.
the glasses as your focus are not strong enough to make me not pay attention to the out of focus eyes, my eyes hardly rest on them as I have to force myself to look at them....and everything else buckster stated.
