After chasing this butterfly around for five minutes, I finally got it to land and get some decent photos of it. C&C welcome.

Thanks for viewing.

Which ISO? the EXIF is scrubbed. I can relate to how tricky it is to get a nice shot, amongst many attempts. The shallow DOF like this means a part of the butterfly will be OOF. But some people naturally use a wide-aperture to keep the shutter-speed high. I would be ok myself with a higher ISO capture, containing a bit of noise but allowing deeper (broader) DOF and a similar shutter-speed to these.

EXIF data (applies for both):
ISO: 200
Shutter Speed: 1/500
F-stop: f/5.6
Focal length: 300mm

For this one, I used my telephoto lens (EF 100-300 USM) on the 300mm end. I always get nervous with ISO's 400 or greater, but many times when I do shoot with 400, even 800, there is not much noticeable noise. Perhaps next time I'll take that idea - higher ISO and smaller aperture.

Thanks for the comment.

You can combat noise to a degree, when using higher ISO by over exposing a little, and then bringing it back down in post. Increasing an under exposure in post will make the noise more prominent. Try it and see!

Thanks for the tip. I will keep this in mind next time! :)
