It seems I'm always hearing the claim that pocket digital cameras can't compete with a DSLR when it comes to a decent photo. I disagree.

Although with a fast zoom lens which would have given you some nice bokeh and a different crop that didn't remove half the tiger this shot would have been better.

please comment on the photo only....... or else :)

While I have been using a simple point and shoot to get my wildlife shots. I capture the subject. sure. However, I think that there is a limit of a point and shoot.
You have captured a nice tiger. Yes. I admit I like the shot. But after seeing images taken with DSLR cameras....if the same tiger were shot from your same position with different lenses it would get more for the picture? is this making sense? I'm so new I can't pull technical points now to prove my point.
I'm just saying that DSLR's would get MORE detail of the same tiger.
But all that aside, what small point and shoot are you using..just curious?

I certainly have to agree with you. I still think that this shot is cool regardless if you only took it with a digital camera.

The shot is cool and no one should say that you absolutely cant get an interesting shot with a point and shoot. In fact you can, it's just usually more limiting and you'll miss a ton of shots that a DSLR would,ve captured. Two biggest drawbacks of most point and shoot cameras, 1.fixed lens, you don't have the possibility of changing them which just limits the possibilities 2.takes forever for the darn thing to shoot depending on the type you're using so you'll never get great shots of moving subjects.

I think this image is excellent! You would be very hard pressed to distinguish it from a DSLR for the same size image.

I have an old (everything is relative, my 1970's vintage F2's are old) Nikon Coolpix 5700 5MP and although it is pretty primative technology compared to modern DSLR's it still does a good job and is a whole lot smaller and lighter than the F2's, F4's or D700 I drag around and let's face if for the web, 5MP is usually enogh for most things.
