I think its time for a new lens before I go on vacation . My dslr is a canon rebel T1i. Right now I have a Tamron SP 70-300mm VC USD lens and I am satisfied with Tamron lenses and if their cheaper than Canon I'll take it. I'll also take sigma under consideration but I tried one of my uncles lenses (cant remember which one) and the colors were bland and not very vibrant. My budget is around 300-400 dollars and I want something around the 17-50 focal range wide angle would be a huge plus aswell. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

perhaps this lens? http://www.tamron.com/en/photolens/di_II_hi_speed/b005.html

The tamron 17-50mm lens is about right for your budget range and a pretty good walk around lens. Around 300-400, unless you go prime lens, the Tamron should be a solid pick.

Bump, which would you go for. I'm tight on money. I need to know because if I buy the canon, it's today.

The 17-85mm lens will not give you good low-light performance. I suggest either the 17-50mm Tamron, or the 24-75mm Tamron. The 28-75mm is not as wide as 17mm but it give you more zoom. So what's important to you, wider to shoot landscape and in tight space condition, or more zoom.

I have both lenses you have listed. The advice really depends on whether you are shooting in or outside. The f2.8 is helpful when flash is not allowed and the extra length is nice on the 17-85. I would not recommend buying both, but I have the 17-85 on my son's camera and the 17-50 on mine. That should tell you which I prefer.

Hot damn, Amazon just bump the price of the Tamron 17-50mm by $100. Where do you live? I suggest buying it used, try craigslist. If not then the ebay one is good right now, Amazon last week had those lens for $369, no tax and free shipping. ahh

is 300 good for it used? Or should i ask for less?

$300 is fine, unless he posted for $300 or $310 then ask for $280. Doesn't hurt to try.
