So as the title suggest, I am about to purchase a new lens, on a budget. Currently my most used lens is a sigma 18-50mm. I have a kit lens that is a canon 28-90mm but nothing larger. I do mostly landscape and street photography. The lens I am considering is Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Image Stabilizer Telephoto Zoom. Most every thing I have read about this lens suggest that it will be a good addition to my bag. But what I would like to know is what are real world experiences with this lens and opinions regarding the styles of photography I mentioned?

If you're going to be shooting landscapes, i highly suggest a wide angle lens.

Isn't that the zoom equivalent of a kit lens? Save your money and buy a Sigma 10-20mm for landscape shots.

Just a couple of considerations...if you ever think that you might move to a full frame camera, then your EF-S lenses will not work on a FF. Have you given any thought to the 70-200mm f2.8 L IS instead. It is probalby a bit more $$, but it is a great lens (my opinion). I have one and I find it quite useful for what have been called "intimate landscapes" and I suspect (my opinion) that it would be a great lens for street scenes.

Cheers,
