Tink Lost in Pens

So I got a new camera (NEX 6) and have been playing around with it to see how I like it. As I am testing the waters I am taking all kinds of pictures. I wanted to see what I could have done better in this photo. Even though its a simple shot there is always something it seems one could do better (composition wise).

Note: I was going for a dramatic vibe. This is my wifes tinker bell pen and she had in on my desk so I stuck it in center of all my pens and wanted this to be like she was lost in a see of old pens. I used a bounce flash with low 100 iso. Used the focus peaking and manual DMF feature. Shot in very low light.

hhmm sorry I am using an Imac 27" monitor and it is nice and bright. I tend to forget about when processing and then posting pictures.

Ill have to brighten it and repost.

Yes yes it's dark, so what. Lots of pictures are dark. If you're going for drama the problem isn't that it's dark or light, it's that the light is soft. There isn't much of it, but it looks more like daybreak peeking in through the curtains, not some sort of noirish harsh light.

Curves to lift the highlights while leaving the bottom half of the tonal range along, plus a large radius unsharp mark to pop local contrast, with some dodging and a little noise thrown in to grunge it up a little. But what it really needs is more dramatic light.

The concept is being stated in words, but is utterly NOT being "shown" in the image. The lighting is not working, because the subject, and the surroundings, are mired in darkness.

cool so adding more light to help the dramatic feel. I can defiantly try that out. I am limited right now to the flash that comes with the camera. YOu can adjust it manually to give a bounce but its not a high output flash. Like I said testing the waters out with this camera trying to see the limitations or lack there of for what I will be shooting.
