Tips for light painting?

So last night I tried light painting. I only spent 30 minutes shooting (since my Mustang isn't the greatest subject for this in particular) and in that time got 50 shots, mainly of the first angle, added them into CS5 as layers in 1 image from Bridge and then deleted the ones that weren't really adding to it. Total time spent on these 2 shots (shooting and editing) was probably just about 2 1/2 hours, and they aren't even good! LOL. But here is my first attempts at light painting. I need more practice.

Once the 3rd shot is done processing (that one I did in one single shot) I will add it here.

Can people give me some tips on how to get better with this? I had the camera set to f9 and about 25-30 seconds.
 
Practice more. Read on-line articles about different ways to paint with light. Try different approaches. Your overall shutter time of 25 to 30 seconds is very brief, and doesn't really give you a lot of time to work.
