If I remember right, Jonathan Livingstone was a seagull, not a pelican, but then, he didn't have any celestial objects named after him (that I know of).

Well, the word play on "To Go Where No Man Has Gone Before" is from the prologue to the TV series, "Star Trek," not Jonathan Livingston Seagull (which there is no such bird by that name alone) and secondly, this is a Great Egret and not a Pelican.
