Really nice captures on the hawk and the quail. I also like the flycatcher and the broad-billed hummingbird, although I'd like to see the bird fill a little more of the frame in those. The sparrow is just too, too small in the frame, almost unnoticeable.

That first hummingbird, though--I'm not sure what's going on with it. It's a beautiful bird, but the purple looks completely fake. I know it's NOT, I'm not suggesting that. But I'm wondering how it was processed because the result, TO ME, is that it looks like bird that someone has literally taken a purple marker to--the purple looks weirdly overlaid on the rest of the photo or something.

Is this selective color? Or has the saturation or sharpness maybe been pushed too far? If this is a result of processing, I'd really like to see the original photo.

Nice shots. Folks have already covered anything I could say. As I have never seen most of these birds, I am now wishing to come to Arizona.

I'll post up the original HB shot when I get home. Its not selective color or anything like that. I never really hit the saturation more then a little +5 in lightroom. Maybe the flash makes it look that way to you. I will be able to give the stats on what I did on processin as well.

Thanks.

Here is the unedited version. Not much difference. These birds have some pretty spectacular gorgets. Im guessing the iridescent of them makes them look like that with a flash shot. To me it looks pretty normal when the sun his hitting these guys its something else.
