Tomorrow morning, by 6:00am, I'm on the road.

I'm leaving Portland, Oregon for good. I've only been here six months, and didn't plan on leaving, but an offer that was too good to pass up came along, so I had to jump on it. As a result, I've got three and a half weeks between me and a seven week gig in Pennsylvania, and then I'll be relocating to St. Augustine, Florida.

I'm going to take my time and do a lot of shooting along the way. Hopefully, I'll have decent internet access, so I can upload photos and do some blogging. The first leg of the trip is from Portland to Florence, Montana (just south of Missoula). Right now, it looks like I've got a day full of rain tomorrow, so I don't know how much shooting I'll be doing. I don't mind shooting in the rain, but I don't plan on setting up the tripod in a deluge, either.

My trip is going to take me through Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New York. After the summer, I'll go from Pennsylvania to New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and then Florida. All in all, it'll be 23 States.

That's what's planned, anyway.

I'm covered from 24mm to 1600mm (figuring a crop sensor on the 40D with a 2x converter, even though I'll probably not use it), and will have the 40D, the 5D and the G12.

I'm excited, apprehensive, nervous and psyched.

If I'm scarce, I'll catch ya' on the flipside...

Very exciting! If you need a guide while in KC I'm more then willing, as long as I can pick your brain just a bit.

Good luck in your travels, look forward to seeing some photos

Enjoy Florida, I lived there for 9 years, and really liked it.
Looking forward to seeing some shots of your trip!
Have a safe trip!

Appreciate that. I'm not sure if I'm going to do one night or two nights in KC...

I love road trips...Hate moving.
when you get to Florida, if your ever around the Orlando area, give us a shout. we'll do lunch, show you the sights.

Too bad you have to go to PA first. When I left the US for good, I started from Ft Lauderdale (where I was living) through Texas, then to Arizona up Utah to Idaho, then to Oregon coast, then head up north to Neah Bay before heading to Seattle where I then sold my car and flew out of there. It took me a month, but it was great. I blew my tire on I-10 in Texas half way between Austin and El Paso(alone, no cell reception and first time swapping a tire), got trapped on soft shoulder (my idiot friend was driving) at Monument Valley, ran the car on the Salt Flats (big no-no if you still want to keep it) and a bunch of crazy stuffs. From tropical humid with no terrain change to dusty dessert ( I drove it on the Monument Valley tour route ) to the wet and moody Pacific north west. I even took it on a ferry ride! Road trips are supposed to be epic, and I hope yours will be as well. Just make sure you've got the essentials and hope that luck is on your side!

Also, I did try to keep up with my blog from Ft Lauderdale through Sedona, at which point I simply could not continue with the blog without sacrificing rest time that I much needed. My friends were all shocked to see my blog being updated everyday. I finally just left it alone and stop worrying about editing my photos in stinky motels with dodgy internet connections. Just click away and enjoy the trip. I did continue to type up my thoughts of the day so I don't lose track of the details.

I blew my tires just 15 miles east of the town Iraan Tx. I was so lucky that the town was close by because I was more than 300miles from El Paso. There was one auto garage and my tire was patchable. One day I will revisit this in the middle of no where town.

Certainly do some blogging and share it here. I love roadtrips and added photos :)

What a fantastic opportunity - road trippin', baybay!!

Don't sweat anything - drive safely, shoot everything, take care, and enjoy the journey!

Sounds like fun. I've always wanted to take some time off to go tour the country. It seems like whenever I've crossed the country (a few times now) I'm always on a deadline to get somewhere and never have time to stop and take in the sights.

Gratz on your new opportunities and hope you have a safe journey while capturing lots of great shots along the way.
