That may be true in some cases Lew, but this image walks the walk.

I find the title interesting, since this picture "reads" as being almost without much tonal stuff. It reads as primarily whites and blacks, with very little of the masses of varying greys we associate with, for instance, "great tonality" or any number of stock phrases that get blurted out.

Nice enough, but have you considered flipping it top to bottom?

I have not thought about flipping it. I'll have to try that and see what it looks like.

When it comes to photography, I know I don't see things as others do, or maybe I do see things that others don't. I just know I like what I like and make no excuses. There was another photo recently put up called "Door" by Sleist. I think that photo is another fantastic shot. For me B&W is more an emotion in shades of gray then the importance of the actual subject. If your goal is strictly subject matter, it matters little if is color or black and white

For me, that's what this image is about. The varying brightnesses, the whites, the darks, all of that. It isn't about the subject, but more about the lights and darks.

Could you explain the "without much tonal stuff" bit? I'm not sure I agree, but I would like to know your thoughts. For me, I see plenty of grey on the left and right of the image.

When I talk about tonality, and the quality of it, I'm usually talking about a picture with a very rich palette of greys. There might be black and white as well, but the picture is mostly a whole bunch of different grey tones, and beautiful transitions between them.

Hmm, interesting. I guess my definition is slightly different. But I completely agree that there isn't a huge percent of greys isn't high, but if it were wouldn't the photo be dull?
