What camera are you currently using?

File type: JPEG
File size: 1,932.8 KB
Creation date: 12/30/2010 23:52

Make: NIKON CORPORATION (Nikon | Home)
Camera: NIKON D5000
Lens: Tamron AF 18-270mm F3.5-6.3 Di II VC LD Aspherical [IF] Macro
Software: Ver.1.00
Dimension: 1877 x 2080 px (3.9 MP)
Focal length: 120 mm (equiv. 180 mm)
Aperture: F9
Exposure time: 1/200"
ISO speed rating: 200/24°
Program: Not defined
Metering Mode: Pattern
White Balance: Auto
Focus Mode: AF-A
Image Stabilizer: On
Noise Reduction: Off
Flash: Internal flash, Flash fired, auto mode, return light detected

OP.. collie is slightly underexposed, but fairly sharp. The dobie is not as sharp... the eyes are a little soft, and the DOF even at F9 did not get his nose, so it is OOF a bit.

Did you post process these at all? They don't look like they have been sharpened in post! I took the liberty of doing so.. and just a little touch up here and there....

What software are you using, if any? Lovely dogs, btw!

Just curious, HOW did you get EXIF off of photos that are posted to a secondary location?

I tried it and all I got was *nothing*.....

You don't have to get *everything* "Vivid and Clear"...what matters most is how THEY are communicating to YOU!..really..

I disagree... photography should show the subject as it IS... not blurry, not out of focus. A good image should accurately reproduce color, texture, lighting, etc... which the photographer can then take and hopefully improve / change to reflect what they are trying to achieve.

....thanks what a difference ..and the collie nose even looks wet and cold....... thanks very much... no i did not process them..except for cropping since i could not upload with them so big........i have Adobe premiere .. i just have to learn how to use it ..i can see the difference between collie and dobie.. collie is definitly a sharper crisper pic now that you sharpened it.. i appreciate it........And thanks for compliment on dogs.. they are awesome..

i do not have much trouble with them communicating... they ususally pay attention.. when they see the camera sometimes they do turn their head on purpose to tease...i really love pics that are clean and crisp.. and full of authentic detail.. like your there in real life.. i know everyone has their own style.. but i strive for this... mainly because i love taking pet pics.. i know theres not much composition in these two pictures.. i have to work on that as well.. but these are head shots so i did not have to include that.. thank very much ..Absolutely love your collie.............. i had one before that i called Smokey...same tri color.... more pics of him when you can.

OP... one thing I would highly recommend if you are not already using it, is Spot Focus. That way, whatever you put the small focus point on.. will be the point of focus. Used properly... it is one of the most accurate ways to ensure good, sharp focus.

Manual is at http://support.nikonusa.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/16431/~/user%27s-manual---d5000---guide-to-digital-photography if you need it. See page 57 for the Single Point Spot Focus info.

Learning the basics of photo editing is a must for Digital Photography... although there are also some settings in the camera that can do some of it. Doing it yourself is far better, as you know what you want... the camera does not.
