Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
Hi Guys,

I took these shots while I was in Toronto last week. Any thoughts on how they could have been better? They were shot at 1 second at f/9 and 1/30 at f/8, respectively.

At first glance, the first one look underexposed while the 2nd one look overexposed.

In the first one, the CN tower looks like it's leaning right a little bit. The photo looks level, so this is probably due to pincushion distortion. It could probably be corrected easily in PS.

I noticed the same thing with the CN Tower, but my e-level was showing that I was leveled. I couldn't figure it out. As far as the exposure, i guess it is a little underexposed. It was pretty dark and I didn't want to blowout the lights in the Rogers Centre or the rest of the city.

The second one is definitely overexposed. I thought so right away but left it the way it was. I can bring this down in lightroom. I shot it at f/8 so the left/top left is not so much in focus. I should have shot it at about f/14 or a little higher.

Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks,
Danny

I would guess that it's not a DOF issue. The lens may have already been at infinity focus, so the distortion/blur near the top may be from other factors. For example, there may be some chromatic aberration, it may be just poor image quality in the corner of the lens, and it's very likely that the poor air quality in T.O. is at play here.

Hmm...

Now I'm a bit confused. My understanding is that even with infinity focusing, there is still DOF to consider. If I was at say f/4 with my lens, everything from 3-6 feet in front of the lens (i forget the exact distance) to infinity would be in focus, but whatever is outside the DOF (to the sides) would become more blurred as you move away from your focal point. Is this not correct? Or is everthing in focus regardless of the aperture setting?

you can always use lens correction to get rid of the distortion problem. besides that, the first pic looks very pleasing. the "underexposed" characteristic of it makes it look that much better
